In this video, Casey is criticizing Eric for arguably valid reasons. However, I think it's worth talking about how we ended up here and ways to address it. To me, the current climate of the internet is the natural evolution of user concentration and corporate greed. I'm thinking: general hostility, algorithmic feeds, invasion of privacy, lack of agency, etc.

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about this. I would love to find a way to make the internet a friendlier place. Since I'm a little older than the demographic Eric is speaking to, I feel like I remember mostly treating strangers on the internet with kindness. As if you were speaking in person.

Tildes is a nicely small community, but I find myself unsatisfied and can't quite put my finger on why. A big part of me says if I'm able to figure out the reasons Reddit and every other clone has gone wrong, the idea could amazing. A place where you're able to voice dissenting or unpopular opinions, but still have a friendly conversation. A place that encourages curiosity over judgement.

I'm just unsure of how to prevent the ultimate decline of websites that connect many people at once.

    Edit: clarity
