I feel like Facebook, YouTube, Steam, Twitter, Reddit, and others, I’m sure, all do this thing where they publicly make grand statements about strict policies that will reign in bad actors — and then find all kinds of reasons to not do anything about them.

Steam at least says upfront now that they don’t give enough of a fuck to do anything.

YouTube implemented a three strikes policy yet lets Alex Jones ride on two strikes despite his content being exactly the same forever.

Twitter says they’ll ban accounts that threaten violence yet verifies accounts of Neo-Nazis and white supremecists.

Facebook just made a feel good ad campaign about how they want to return Facebook to being a platform to connect with people, yet this shit keep happening.

That’s my bad for not being clear. My issue with Twitter verification is that they’ve gone through the trouble of determining the owner of that handle, and yet does not ban them despite knowing that the owner is a Nazi or a white supremacist, neither of whom should be welcome on Twitter based on Twitter’s terms of service.

For example, Lauren Southern advertised her Patreon fundraiser for her refugee murder boat on Twitter. Patreon though it offensive enough to shut down her account, yet Twitter is happy to still host her despite knowing exactly who she is and what she does with their platform.
