    I can't help but wonder who was in charge of designing the affected systems, and why they didn't account for era transitions. This isn't something we can blame on COBOL programmers omitting the century to save memory and disk space. Then again, nobody knew that the Heisei era would follow the Shōwa era until Akihito succeeded Hirohito and announced the name of his reign.
