    The Brave organization doesn't make anything off of him. If he doesnt claim it, it just sits there indefinitely.

    So they don't make interest on the money that's just sitting there indefinitely?

    Why is it okay to mislead people into donating money that they think is going to a content creator they enjoy, when the money is actually just sitting there indefinitely?

    This isn't actually better.

    As somebody currently on a CICO diet, I don't believe DanBC was saying you can maintain or gain weight while taking in less than you burn. I interpreted their comment to mean that the diet itself is unsustainable for some, which it can be in the environment we live in. There's a serious dearth of healthy diet information available. When someone hears that all they have to do is eat less, they may try to stick to the same diet, just smaller, which won't work for many people.

    There's also the fact that your metabolism adjusts as you lose weight, meaning you have fewer calories to work with, so you won't lose as much as you did before even with the same diet, and that's confusing and frustrating for many.

    Is there any inherent value in giving birth to your own child? Why would you need your neighbor's gametes -- why not adopt?

    Do you want infanticide? Because that's how you get infanticide.

    In an ideal society sex-selective abortion would not be illegal, but for practical reasons we should ban sex selective abortion for now.

    What if the family is poor and cannot afford disabled baby, but could healthy one?

    This goes double for disabled parents. People sneer at aborting disabled babies, they say "Well, it's your right, but you're still ableist to do it", and they never stop to realize that disabled people get pregnant too. I might, sometime in the far future, maybe have the resources to handle a kid. I seriously doubt that, with all my mental health issues, I could ever handle a disabled child. Guess I'm just drinking the internalized ableism Kool-Aid.

    There's no way to prevent sex-selection abortions while also embracing the right to abort. The way to stop it isn't to restrict the abortions themselves, but to change how people think about women.

    Yeah, this is how I see it too. Plus it's not like the users of t_d, et al, only stick to hate subs. They're viewing ads in other subreddits, buying Reddit Gold, bringing in revenue... just not in the nastiest places. If Reddit really valued ideals over revenue they would ban the subreddits and their most prolific users.

    Whereas when I say that I'm an atheist, literally all I'm saying is that I don't believe in any gods. Not believing in a god and being attracted to one's own gender are both statistical outliers, and both classes face discrimination (homosexuality moreso than atheism, in my opinion), so it's helpful to have a shorthand way of referring to them.

    For the people arguing in favor of not showing vote counts, if you'd be interested, I hacked together some CSS to make that happen client-side. It won't affect anyone other than those who might choose to install this code, but if you'd like, then here:

    @-moz-document domain("tildes.net") {

    a.post-button[name=vote], a.post-button[name=unvote] {
      display: none!important;
    }

    span.comment-votes {
      display: none!important;
    }

    }

    (You may or may not need the !important. It's not really good practice to use it as much as I do, but my browser has decided recently that I have to add it to basically everything or my scripts won't work.)

    (...okay, I guess I am a coder, kind of.)

    I am very much not a coder -- I've considered learning, but all my favorite open-source websites use different languages so I'm just like, where would I even start? Thanks for letting me know, though!
