But, if you're looking for a 4" screen, you're in the minority, at least for the US. People want to watch youtube, movies and shows, browse instagram, facebook, snapchat, etc. on a big, bright, sharp screen. Netflix on phones is very popular. Every time I'm looking for sports streams, there are people asking for mobile streams. Mobile is becoming a more and more popular way to use the internet, and most people don't want to do that on what's (now) perceived as a tiny screen.
The first thing I noticed is the snappier loading. I like that a lot and it's long overdue Apple made that a central issue for an iOS update. Even though my iPhone SE is now 4 generations behind...
The first thing I noticed is the snappier loading. I like that a lot and it's long overdue Apple made that a central issue for an iOS update. Even though my iPhone SE is now 4 generations behind (and worryingly low on their support list), I don't feel like it is in any way outdated, hardware wise. Huge difference to, say, installing iOS 7 on an iPhone 4 and seeing a slow down (what a pain!). Everything is faster now.
Other things:
I don't care about 90% of the other "features". Like, it seems they can't come up with anything worthwhile.
I'm curious about AR so I checked out the 3D measuring app to see where we're at. I measured a door frame and it was only off by 1cm. That's impressive! But I had to carefully drag it around like a baby. I mean, maybe it works better in newer phones but while cute, it's still so shaky and completely looses track when you accidentally move the screen too fast or in the wrong direction. It seems years away from being useful, as it did years ago. And that assumes the usefulness is related to technical quirks rather than those inherent to to the idea of AR solving real-world problems.
I hate (hate) the machine learning it crams into Photos for no good reason, it's creepy they tag photos by facial recognition, stop that, you're not facebook, Apple! Those tacky, auto-generated slide shows and whatnot have a Microsoft-like "I never asked for this" vibe to it as well. Been there before iOS 12 but it seems they're pushing that shit. Where can I switch it off? Can I?
I actually like the screen time app, though. I'm seriously considering tracking how much time I spend on various apps/sites and limit myself more in the future. It's such a waste of time to go in circles, desperately looking for something new to distract yourself.
