Whoever predicted this has either never used cryptocurrency to purchase anything or has a high tolerance for being inconvenienced.

I don't disagree, but last year HOO BOY were there people claiming it was going to change everything. Immediately.

I don't think anyone thought any of this would happen in 2018, I wouldn't say (most) any of these necessarily failed quite yet. Though it's insane that "Celebrities will influence purchasing decisions in augmented and virtual reality" made the list while "Drone delivery" is a runner-up. What?

Thanks to automation, security will become simpler to use

It did. Sure, face recognition proved to not be the most secure (yet?), but bypassing a fingerprint scanner is way too impractical for the everyday person to worry about. It's a lot more secure than a pattern lock, and pin locks aren't too much better than that. It's a lot more likely someone can watch over your shoulder for your pin than make a fingerprint mold.

    Cryptocurrency will be widely accepted

This wasn't really a reasonable prediction. I feel Business Insider needed something to fluff up that list. Even if that were to ever actually happen, it surely wouldn't be Bitcoin. And due to the amount of cryptocurrencies (and scams) there are, it's hard to really picture a Bitcoin competitor ever reaching BTCs popularity.

Imagine thinking such a volatile "currency" with hardly any businesses supporting it would suddenly gain widespread adoption in just a year. Besides, we don't need any more fragmentation on payment methods.

    Lastly:

Smart clothing will be en vogue

Smart clothing is still being developed, Levi/Google Jacquard still gets updates to this day. I suppose this was a failed "prediction", but I don't know if their fifty predictions were all really "reasonable sounding".
