Seeking help on a Tasker set up

I have a Fitbit blaze. It doesn't have a proper api, you can only get the data it generates. However it does have push notifications and a music controller.

My idea was to set up a playlist of empty music files to act as menu options. E.g. track one would be named "turn phone off" and so on. This works as fine as a single menu option but when using multiple option, VLC just plays through the entire playlist.

Is there a music player that selects one track on a playlist and then stops? Or can I set this in VLC?

VLC -> Tools, Preferences, show settings (down at bottom) set to All -> Playlist - Play and stop (stops the playlist after each played playlist item) Is that what you're looking for?

Looking for something like this or a suggestion for how a music controller (last track .. play/pause .. next track) could be used to scroll though a directory of files corresponding to commands.

It doesn't need to be VLC I think I just need an app that allows the setting you described and also puts the filename somewhere in the system notification. My tasker trigger is based on the notification because my first attempt was a trigger looking for the file being opened, but it didn't work.

Ah yeah sorry it's a desktop setting. I have no idea if the mobile version has the same option tucked away anywhere.

No problem and thanks, it was still helpful to bounce it off someone. I would assume if VLC can't do what I need something else will be able to.
