    The phenomenon described where everyone has to have their opinion is a classic example of Parkinson's Law of Triviality, which some of you may know as the bikeshed effect.

    ... and in keeping with the spirit, I really like "bird mode". It's whimsical and reminds me of the kind of humor and personality Google had back in the old days.
