I'm glad this is getting some notice. I used to lurk on /r/geopolitics but stopped after seeing too much pro-PRC and pro-CCP bias. /r/worldnews is also particularly bad for this as are certain subjects on other subreddits. On the other hand, the issue is complicated both by the extreme anti-Chinese and anti-Asian racism on Reddit (check out any /r/canada or /r/vancouver thread involving housing or international students) and by people who are sincerely pro-China; not to mention Reddit's small network of Asian and Chinese supremacist subreddits.

I don't have any good answers for how to deal with mass manipulation campaigns but on a personal level I find it useful to tag people with RES for certain subjects to make it more apparent when it's the same few people pushing certain views again and again.

I used to lurk on /r/worldnews and /r/news in the past but stopped a couple years ago cause it was just too racist for me and made me angry. I'll admit that the anger would sometimes push me to lurk on asian supremacist subreddits, and also black subreddits just to cool off. The reason for this is because there is no recourse for Asian Americans when reddit starts an anti-asian circle jerk. Any type of reason you try to inject will be immediately downvoted to oblivion so you become bitter and want to read people being racist towards white people until you cool off. /r/canada , /r/vancouver, /r/china are well known anti-asian subreddits in the community.

I think the reason they haven't found any direct evidence of China coordinating trolls is because these trolls are actually just asian american or asian europeans that are pissed off by the extreme anti-asian racism and know there is no way to really fight back or speak reason.

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for but /r/Taiwan is the friendliest local subreddit I've seen (and it does seem to be largely local, as opposed to somewhere like /r/China) and they obviously wouldn't accept any anti-Asian racism like in so many other places on Reddit.

Thank you for the recommendation! It's interesting reading Taiwanese voices. The problem is more that I can't even read subs about my interests like /r/pcgaming without seeing comment chains...

The problem is more that I can't even read subs about my interests like /r/pcgaming without seeing comment chains calling for the execution of all Chinese people or something similar.

My solution was just to read reddit as little as possible now. It just sucks that there isn't anything quite as encompassing as reddit. I really enjoy the tildes community though.
