Note: A similar article was posted to tildes here. It talks about the technical challenges that caused the delay.

TL;DR: Warp is a free VPN available through the 1.1.1.1 app. It will secure all your network traffic using wireguard to Cloudflare's servers.
Warp plus costs $5/month. It uses Cloudflare's fancy routing to hopefully achieve faster speed and reliability when browsing on slow and erratic internet connections.

Both options are not going to try to hide your ip address from the destination website, as a normal vpn does. Their goal is to ensure your data is encrypted, at least as far as Cloudflare's servers. This prevents people or ISPs snooping on your browsing when using untrusted WIFI.

Anyone who signed up for the wait list gets 10GB of warp+ data for free. There is also an invite system that gets both people 1GB of warp+ data.

I'm glad they clearly lay out who the target market is for this: Not for security conscious folk, but for every day, I don't want my ISP harvesting my data folk. Now, I'm not entirely sure how...

Now, I'm not entirely sure how much I trust CloudFlare, with that data, but at this time, they appear to be a not-too-evil corporation.
