Ah yeah that's the main one. If you want, you could try to find a smaller instance, maybe one that's geared toward interests of yours. That's what made the platform "use-worthy" for me ¯\(ツ)/¯

On a serious note, what I would recommend is to find a niche instance based around something you like and just read through the local feed to find people you like. That's basically the only reason why I'm on mastodon at all. SDF has some small degree of overlap with Tildes, so I give them my endorsement.

Agreed, I started out on mastodon.social but moved to a much smaller instance called sunbeam.city which is based specifically around solarpunk topics like gardening, zero-waste lifestyle stuff, social ecology, etc. It's nice because you can use the local timeline to see posts that are of a smaller group of people you know better, focused around shared interests, rather than just a hodgepodge of whatever's going on (which you can still see in the federated timeline). In addition, I follow several accounts from other instances I've seen, such as radical.town. I think smaller communities is where Mastodon really excels.

Sadly a lot of the people I've found who were on Twitter with Mastodon accounts have left empty ones behind. If you like comics, I make sure to post my webcomics there, as does Jake Lawrence. It...

Would love to know this myself. It might just be my instance, but there doesn't seem to be any discussion going on. Everyone is just screaming into the void.

uses of weaponized memes. hypersexualized and or psychomanioulative bots and content. they don't have as many users as they claim, there are hundreds of thousands of bots used to target and harass people. there's so much harassment and violence including rape and death threats. it's mostly just a channer and incel social space and comes with all the typical harm. stuff like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P55t6eryY3g applies to fedi as well. there are instances that promote cp, and I'm not talking about borderline loli stuff or w.e.
i could keep going. it's not worth it. it's just a harmful space, and i regret my time there. it also left me feeling heart broken and hurt for other reasons. it's just a harmful network run by harmful people for harmful things.
Slightly related: do you guys have any accounts to recommend on Mastodon? I honestly don't know who to follow on there.
Which instance are you on?

Yeah this is a great thing about Mastodon. I use the Mast app on iOS which allows you to follow a specific timeline, I've added sunbeam.city :)

I like to think I'm quite interesting... the instance I am on definitely is!
@ols@chaos.social
The new features look great, I think the ability to list blocked domains and the reasons for blocking them will be very helpful.
fedi is one of the most harmful online spaces to date. i would never recommend it to anyone
