Are there examples of messaging apps that have ads in them? I remember Skype was showing some ads on Windows. I wonder what can be the ad revenue per user in a messaging app?

I suspect these users have no loyalty to any particular platform. As soon as ads start to get annoying they’ll move on to the next thing that doesn’t have ads.
