Eh. There's a separation between the author and the entities that caused that. The other day there was an article on the Washington Post that condemned browser fingerprinting, which it said a third of the top 500 sites practiced including the WaPo itself. They had a quote from someone high up with the excuse that it's industry standard, and condemned that, too.
One of the first things I do when setting up a new machine with Firefox is to turn off notifications. I'm so glad they're doing this. At the very least I wish they'd have made that setting sync...
