    The big automakers have been shoving automotive analytics into AWS/Azure/etc for years, this is not really news. They don't really know what to do with it yet, but they know it's valuable and they're trying out everything.

    As for the insurance bit, no fucking thank you. I had a State Farm rep call me a year or two ago and offer to reduce my premium if I put a bluetooth tracking dongle into my car that uploaded data via my phone. I said "no, not now, and not ever" and then spent a few minutes explaining all of the reasons why I don't want them or anyone else having that data since it is mostly unregulated and out of my control. I got the impression that the call center operator had never actually heard any of those reasons.
