This guy reminds me of the host from Ordinary Things - he prefers to manufacture outrage than give any nuance to his stories. To be fair, Elon Musk is a huge dick. He doesn’t deserve the praise he gets. But whenever these hate-spam channels cover anything I’m already pretty familiar with I quickly realize how slanted the takes are.

He’s genuinely upset that Starlink is a supplementary revenue stream for SpaceX? He’s upset that it’s not novel tech but instead something that many others are trying to do? Welcome to the real world, where marketing exists. As far as lies-to-get-your-money go, hyping up Starlink is pretty benign. And claiming that 100 mb/s down is below average and thus not worthy of excitement? That’s a blatant bad faith argument. Low orbit Internet satellites aren’t there to compete with fiber. They blow old satellite and DSL out of the water.

The overall sentiment is true, Elon oversells himself and his companies and he cares primarily about his money. But I hate content like this. It only serves to get upset people more upset by spinning the truth to reach the most aggravating results.

I think Musk deserves more hate than he gets. As far as I'm concerned, he's responsible for a number of deaths because he actively spread COVID misinformation last year.

I agree that he definitely does, he's an exploitative capitalist tyrant with all the emotional maturity of a 12 year old, but it seems like it's always either all or nothing, and I find that unnuaunced and incomplete. There tends to be either cringey sycophantic mass media coverage and musk fanboys, or people shitting on genuinely good ideas because he's the one that had them. You don't see many people wondering if he might have been a net gain for society if it weren't for an economic system that makes him ludicrously and undemocratically powerful and unaccountable.

From the YT recommendations I found this video, which might be more appealing. It is critical of Musk but spends most of its time not talking about him or his projects at all, but rather trying to answer the rather interesting question, "what need does Musk's vision fulfill and why are so many people buying into it?"
