Iโm yet to try this out but the biggest problem with their old communities feature was that it was essentially just tags for normal group chats. You had to use the normal group creation UI and then you go in to the community and add groups in.
This UI is terrible. It didnโt feel like a community at all.
Canโt wait to try out this new change though and see how they did.

But the folders analogy is really quite accurate from a technical side of things - spaces are rooms that contain a list of other rooms. The Matrix developers give a brief overview of applications this opens up in their corresponding blog post.
