I don't know why this article is making a big deal about SELinux. SELinux was also part of CentOS, which was what the previous Amazon distro was based off of. And I'm not aware of any major linux distro that doesn't come with some form of advanced MAC based security platform like AppArmor.
Moving ahead, AWS's Amazon Linux is based on Red Hat's Fedora Linux.
