I think that we should allow image submissions but maybe require a submission statement to go with it to seed discussion. This is done with articles in /r/geopolitics and I think it could be done well as long as image posts stay as a low percentage of overall posts. I have nothing against image posts in and of themselves as long as they are interesting and provide something that can be discussed.

On mobile, Imgur has gotten really bad over the past year, as they redirect direct links to the gallery view so they can advertise their app. Imgur is getting just as bad as the image hosts it was designed to replaced, and there don't seem to be any good alternatives. But seeing how expensive image hosting could get (and there is no real funding model currently), I don't think tildes should become its own image host, either.
(Also, if Tildes ever gets any apps, official or 3rd party, I'm sure people will grab images directly via the Imgur API so we don't have to deal with Imgur's mobile website.)

It’s unlikely image hosting will ever happen here, especially given it’s uncertain whether direct image submissions will even be allowed.

I find that Imgur is a decent image hosting service that allows direct image linking.

I don't think there will be a ~ app.
Well, unless someone makes one. The devs have mentioned they will allow anyone to use the API to make a mobile app, if they choose to do so.
Some people were talking about making one in this thread once the API gets released, hence the mentioning of 3rd party apps.
Ah, right on. Thanks!
That's the perfect stance on an app though. No need for an official one. Hell, reddit's official one is the basically the worst one.
Couldn't agree more. Sync for life! :)
