Do you know Tildes-like websites in languages other than English?

I'm looking for places with the same UX and pace of conversations as Tildes, but used by other-than-English language speakers.
I know some Lemmy websites, but their UI isn't what I'm looking for.

Tildes is open source. If I'm not mistaken, someone with the right skills could fork it/create a new version with the same UI/UX for a different language.

Would making language specific sub-tildes be an idea worth considering, E.G nl.tildes.net/~sometilde?

I think the challenge with that is Deimos is practically the only real moderator of Tildes. Other people have some permissions more than the average user but those are more like upkeep things, but Deimos is the only one with full mod powers.

The language support is limited by what Deimos can moderate. Now if comes a time that he finds a system he is satisfied with that makes it so he's not the sole moderator of Tildes (which is English only), then possibly such a system could support other languages too, but as long as he remains the only moderator of Tildes, it realistically can't happen under the Tildes domain/under Deimos control of Tildes.

That means you'd have to go with the other options mentioned in here, which is someone else taking the source code and making their own Tildes under a different name basically.

Tildes is open source. The better idea would be for someone to spin up a server in their language of choice. I'm sure Deimos wouldn't mind cross advertising any sister sites that use his code...

I like what Mastodon has the UI for, but has not implemented. You check off what language you post in and which languages you want to see posts in. Maybe an implemented version of that could work...

That sounds like a really good idea. It would allow users to easily use the site multi-lingually as well.

Here is a list of what is currently available:
    https://lemmy.world/post/465785

I use Voyager to browse Lemmy. You can either use it as an app on your phone or go directly to https://vger.app/ and go to settings and set appearance to compact. Voila, suddenly Lemmy has become beautiful and, well, compact!
There is even a web based app, where you enter the url of the instance you wanna browse and it will look like old Reddit.

Most of those web apps work on a desktop computer just as well as on a phone or tablet!

Where I'm going with this is: don't let the ugly first impression of most Lemmy instances fool you! There are tons of communities hidden in the Fediverse with all sorts of topics with a lot of people there having thoughtful discussions in all kinds of languages.

I'm now kinda wondering now how hard it would be to port the Tildes UI into a Lemmy frontend.

You'd need to trust the server to not use your access token maliciously, but that's unavoidable for any server-side rendered UI and one workaround would just be to ask server owners to run it next to their Lemmy servers (as some servers already do) as opposed to running "a main instance".

I have too much on my plate and I really don't care about Lemmy development so if anyone's looking for a project idea there ya go.

Beehaw.org has downvoting disabled. You can read that Lemmy instance through Alexandrite, has a nicer UI.

Yeah, but I'm not saying about nicesness of UI, more about UI encouraging to meaningfulity (or how to say), a tildes.net-like UI. E.g. Lemmy has comment bar above comments, which is a big no-no...

E.g. Lemmy has comment bar above comments, which is a big no-no for me. That's why I'm not really satisfied with Lemmy instances.
Also, I prefer to just use website, not any app.
