I like information to be affordable for every person and this is my way of rewarding media that follow this philosophy. One of them is selling physical magazines, however all the articles on their website are open. And after reading I share it with my inner circle or just leave it in a bus/tram/bench so that anyone can take it.

The former: "Cooking with black plastic is particularly crucial to avoid"
The latter: "How a simple math error sparked a panic about black plastic kitchen utensils"
I find the first one as a pre-confirmed alert. Clickbaity in my opinion. Even the original title:
"Throw Out Your Black Plastic Spatula
It’s probably leaching chemicals into your cooking oil."
Looks very dramatic for me.It's very difficult to make a title of the latter as emotional as former. One of the reason is that it doesn't talk about affecting our health negatively. But the former could probably be titled somewhat less emotionally. As you say, no algorithm required. But I think the title (both original and posted) and article itself were more clickbaity than an actual study they referenced and maybe it could make a little difference. For me this case you've brought here is an indication to find The Atlantic less trustworthy source than I thought before.
One thing I liked about Reddit was their r/science. As I remember, titles there were usually long and informative. Not always, of course.

The question may be, are trustworthy mainstream sources nowadays a healthy sources of information for our minds?
Also, are any Internet news media a healthy sources? Aren't those trustworthy mainstream media pushed to be a little more clickbaity nowadays, fighting for the viewers on a market full of shitty, emiotonally-engaging media? "Free" media get money from clicks, so they need viewers. Lots of mainstream English-language media aren't govt or ngo sponsored. I'm just thinking about it, just trying to form questions which could be worth to ask.Or maybe the world is (or especially USA [I bet most Tildes users are from there]) in very bad shape currently, so we naturally have more sad stories to report on?

Like people no longer choose their sources, but instead rely on Google News or whatever equivalent of corporate feed? The more emotional articles the better (for wealthy owning these media). Like people don't choose their own feed, don't choose their websites, don't use RSS etc. I think it may be a part of explanation.

Except when I type/write someting, my mind tells me what ever I'm writing, but the soundtrack is still there, however if needed it gets quiet not to disturb my mind speaking to me words I'm typing at the moment.Once we've been hiking in the winter with friends one of them asked me how many songs do I know, because I've been humming dozens of them, not repeating a single one throughout every hour of our hike. I was surprised by their observation and realized I've been really doing this, not just on the trip, but probably most of my life.
Yes, probably that's connected to me wanting to go to music school as a kid and in the end finishing music degree. However, it is so random, choosing the songs to play by my brain, no constant plan, just like a cat seeing something moving and rushing towards it. Constant radio playing various stuff all the time. I'd love to be able to choose what gets played, though.
[edit]
One more interesting thing I've just recalled - this brain activity probably helped with learning languages, because well, they also are kind of music - all of them have some melody. And repeating phrases constantly (because they resemble a phrase of a song) helps to grasp the accent and memorize the melody of the language. -

This report is a first but crucial step in understanding the full extent of the negative impact that tech manufacturers make during the production process."
Link to the report itself: https://www.fairphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/The-impact-of-consumer-electronics-on-nature-and-biodiversity.pdf
The global economy is intrinsically linked to nature, with over half of the world's GDP estimated to be moderately or highly dependent on natural capital. The electronics industry negatively impacts this natural capital through resource depletion, freshwater use, and biodiversity loss, particularly in mining areas. Wildlife populations have declined by 73% the past fifty years and parts of our planet are approaching dangerous tipping points driven by nature loss and climate change. This poses significant threats to humanity, nature and our economies.
By sharing this report, outlining our analysis and the (public) sources we used, we want to help move the electronics industry forward faster, driving a much-needed focus on nature and biodiversity beyond climate and taking positive action immediately. The Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) framework offers a solid foundation for a holistic environmental due diligence and impact assessment, including biodiversity. The assessment highlights Fairphone's impact and dependencies on nature across our value chain, focusing on manufacturing stages and the mining of minerals present in our products.

For me this move is just greenwashing, pretending they want to do anything good for the vulnerable, while allowing much more of vulnerable people suffer because of their greed. It's overkill in my opinion, it's definitely not aimed to help elder, it's only $$$ talking here, to get the noncorporate apps hell out of their ecosystem, to be able to do business in dictatorships by playing by their rules.

Don't have data on this, but afair there's not enough hardware for current demand (made by ai companies), not speaking about replacing and adding more hardware in the future. On one hand, throughout times hardware has been becoming more affordable, but we've never seen such spike of demand for it from corporations as nowadays.

kjw Link ParentYes, however we have Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok, Twitter etc. I think that election manipulation tactics are easier done using these nowadays. You don't need Russian...I honestly think the future is that the internet will eventually be restricted on a country by country basis. I don't see how it will continue to be justified to allow countries like North Korea or Russia etc. to launch attacks and election manipulation tactics with impunity because they are outside of any jurisdiction that matters.
Yes, however we have Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok, Twitter etc.
I think that election manipulation tactics are easier done using these nowadays. You don't need Russian propaganda be sent straight from Russia. It will be proxied by corporate social media. People will go on streets if you try to take their favouritedrugsapps away. The Rich will be laughing and continue to put money to influencers and ads on theses platforms, while having parties on various islands. And people will be protesting against blocking their favorite apps.
Slightly offtopic, but I felt that I need to write it.
I wonder if we can do anything more to try to stop it or is it a really end?
