Nevermind, I've just noticed there's "Browse the list of groups" button on the main page, the group is just not displayed there, but after clicking the button it's there. -

kjw https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/oct/02/israel-intercepts-aid-flotilla-but-one-ship-reported-to-have-got-through-blockadeIsrael says it has stopped a pro-Palestinian flotilla carrying aid from reaching Gaza, with its navy intercepting all but one of the vessels trying to breach the blockade.
Of the 42 vessels being tracked online by the Global Sumud flotilla (GSF), 41 were listed as having been confirmed or assumed to have been stopped by Israeli forces.
On Thursday evening GSF started a live stream on Instagram showing a video of a vessel named Marinette which was still navigating.
“Marinette is still sailing strong,” said the GSF, though it appeared to be farther offshore and parallel to the coast of Egypt.

Hmm have you tried to ask any of your friend to check it out? To invite them, tell them what it is and why it could be cool to use it, especially that you're already there.
Sorry to put it this way but I ended up seriously thinking: this is a platform for when I retire. When time is plenty and I want something light: pics of dogs, microblog about my walks, etc. While I have a full time job it just didn’t fit in my life.
It's not a sin, I'd say. I also don't use any corporate social media because, as you've written „less screen time was one of the reasons I left FB and the likes to begin with,”. Also I use very rarely any other social media too. I'm very happy that fediverse exists, but don't have time and energy to use it, I prefer real life connections.

It's kind of first of its kind. And doesn't have amount of money corporations have, which limits everything. Which also may be a good thing for those tech-oriented people, they don't need normies in their sandbox.
Non-tech people have no interest in going there, they feel comfortable enough on corporate-owned media where there are more non-tech-oriented people and probably some of their friends. Why would they change it?
Another things is that, well.. I kind of like the fact that for me fediverse is not as addictive as corporate media were. The reasons don't matter for me, it may be too few people, too monothematic content, doesn't matter, it's just less addictive and I like it. More time to spend outside or with real people.

I ask because I would love to do my IT job, but for the government, not for a private company. Of course it may be different in my country, but I'm curious.[edit]

kjw How do you manage doing many various acitivities? I'm a software dev and I struggle so much with things popping up around, messages, errors, changing contexts etc. It's been really, and I mean it,...I wear a lot of hats. Some days I'm building websites, debugging applications, or managing servers. Other days I'm dissecting email deliverability issues, or working with clients to solve problems from the simple to complex.

Not so easy loving libre projects and knowing I could contribute but can't. One thing I decided to do is to contribute financially to some of them. And another thing I dream about in the future is to change from full time to 4/5 time job. I would love to work 4 days and do non profit work for 1 day a week.

First of all, I want to say very big THANK YOU for all who contribute to various libre, open source etc. projects. I'm so happy that people love sharing knowledge, skills and fruits of their work.
But to the topic - how do you find time for it?
Whenever I update my Debian or Axpos or any other libre software I see soooo many updates/changes made by (probably soooo many) people. And I always ask myself a question - when did they do that? Where have they found time for contributing? For me full time work makes me so tired that it's the last thing I think about after work hours. Especially in the office job, after x hours of sitting before my monitor I truly hate every next minute after work. I would love to contribute some code, I would realllly love to. Sometimes I find some bugs and try to report them and that's all I am able to do. What frustrates me the most is that I have abilities to code because it's my daily job, but I don't have energy to do that. So, could you tell me how do you find time and energy to contribute to libre projects?

*On the Internet
It's not just on Tildes. From my observations, two most toxic forums in Polish Internet are, one about programming and another about electronics.
They just sit on their computers all the time. That's why they are so prevalent on the Internet. I should say "we", because I also work as a software developer, but I don't identify as one of them species.
Also, IDK about other countries, but in Poland, software devs and other coders have been very lucky, because there was a huuuuuuuge demand for such skills lately and they became a group of very high salaried positions almost instantly. Without demand, from employers, of finishing any (not just good, any) IT/CS degree. Bootcamp, self-learn, etc. and booom! You're a software developer getting 2/3x salary of o ordinary people. And you don't need any legal eligibility. So it was pretty fast and easy, compared to other industries, where e.g. you have to finish X years and pass X certificates to become a judge, a medical doctor etc.
So boom, and we have plenty of „blacksmithes of their fate”. For them everybody else is lazy.
– I educated myself! I've changed my life by 180 degrees! WhY cAn'T yOu, LaZy BaStArD???
– No, you were lucky you are probably smart to some extent and you chose good industry in a good times.
– Bullshit! I've forged my destiny, because I'm motivated to educate! Stop complaining!

So far it just seems like "here you have it, some weapons for testing so that our military equipment will gain some recognition and we will get more clients and €€/$$ for our military industry". It's always about money.
And I'm not even mentioning Palestine and Israel... -

Creating culture is expensive, also I think that culture itself is not that important for people, as e.g. food or place to sleep to justify paying more for a ticket.
Also there's not that much data to scrap from customer physically watching a movie in a cinema, what corporations do extensively via their vod services and that in the end makes vod cheaper, hence easier to use than going to the cinema.
