I'm a little confused- I get the TikTok website with options for either Android or IOS, but both pages include only a QR code which, when scanned on my Android device, attempts to open the Google Play Store (which it can't do because I don't have it). In what way is this APK provided sans-store? Maybe it's location locked for USA only? I am in the UK currently.

This could have an interesting side effect of popularizing side loading. Before people would roll their eyes at a prompt to sideload NewPipe etc. Maybe soon that won't be too much of an ask?

Yeah, it's US-only. The laws barring TikTok from being served in US app marketplaces only affect US customers.
Is this a Tiktok advert?

TikTok app on the Epic Game Store? It would be pretty ballsy, but Epic kind of has a reputation for doing what they want.
I doubt epic wants to risk the fines either. It's less about balls and more about getting fined out of existence by the government.
Cool, sideloading goes mainstream! Thank you USA.
