Suggestion: Standardize where "votes" are.

On posts, the vote button is to the right of the text. On comments, it's at the bottom. This adds a minor difficulty to new users attempting to vote up a comment.

Still chipping through my mountain of emails from the HN and reddit posts today, but just wanted to throw in a quick comment on the current placements:

I put votes at the bottom of comments because I think it only makes sense to vote after you've read the comment. Especially when you're on mobile, if you read a long comment it's really weird to have to scroll back up to the top of it afterwards to be able to vote.

For topics it was mostly just that I wanted to put the voting/score a bit out of the way. It's important information, but I think having it on the left side is a bit unnecessary - it's useful to reference but isn't really the most important information, so I'd rather emphasize things like the title and which group it was posted in over the voting. It also works quite well on mobile (for right-handed people, at least) in the current position.

Good luck with the emails! 😅 This is a really good point that I hadn't considered. You've really thought this out a lot!! What about moving the vote option to the footer of the topics?...

As an unimportant addendum to this post, displaying '1 vote' instead of '1 votes' would be a nice touch.

But I generally agree and the placement of votes in the comment section is something we're probably going to have to change for consistency's sake. Thanks for the suggestion. ;)

Vote in bottom left of comments, top right of commects section to vote on the submission, on front page it's to the far right of topic titles. Like @flaque said it's a little inconsistent right...

As a new user, I found zero difficulty in figuring out how to vote up a post and/or a comment.

putting everything on the left makes the most sense to me. that's where the comment collapse button is, and the direction from which you start reading a sentence!

But shouldn't you read the comment/article/topic before voting on it?

On Reddit, I've always found the upvote/downvote so close to the comment collapse makes me accidentally hit the collapse when I meant to upvote/downvote :(
