Can't invite someone new

I am trying to invite a friend to Tildes, and on my invite page I see the message "You aren't able to generate more invite links right now."

Is this a default setting for new users?

Yes, IIRC new accounts aren't given any invites when they are first created. However, @Deimos occasionally gives them out to all preexisting accounts, though AFAIK the last time he did that was on Mar 2nd, so we're probably due for another round at some point soon.

In the mean time, as others have suggested, feel free to point people to the latest "Official Invite Requests" round on reddit's /r/Tildes (we usually respond to requests there within a few hours), or have them email invites@tildes.net directly with an invite request.

There are always invites on /r/tildes, you can just send your friend there.
