The Red Line was a planned 14-mile east-west transit rail line that would have connected isolated high-poverty neighborhoods with regional job centers from Woodlawn to west Baltimore, into downtown Baltimore and east Baltimore. Construction was set to be completed by 2021. Moore said the project would have connected people with jobs and driven economic development had it not been canceled.

The Maryland Transit Administration describes the Red Line as a high-frequency, high-capacity transit line for the Baltimore region that will be an investment in residents’ access to jobs, education, services and opportunities.

The state plans to identify route alignments for public feedback in the spring. The state will also planning to hold public hearings to get feedback on whether the Red Line should be light rail, a rapid bus system or combination of mass transit options.

i feel like there has been a big mid-to-large-size city push for/buzz around expanded public transit just this week. Kansas City was also talking about expanding rapid transit to their airport
