    This was the analysis that overstepped their mandate - they are not supposed to bring conclusions, as that is political.

    And politically, there is still a fair bit of support. However, the bill is massive. As there will be a priority queue, it is not likely to happen anytime soon.

    I personally really want it, and it should be connected further as well, all the way to Russia and down to Finland.

      It's much too expensive. I think a better idea would be to build a railway southwards from Tromsø, through Bardufoss and Setermoen, then up the valley towards Sweden to connect to Ofotbanen on the west bank of Torneträsk. Then exports and imports to the region can be shifted to rail, tourists can get in and out of the Tromsø area, we can run commuter trains between Tromsø/Narvik/Kiruna, and with Sweden (eventually) a NATO member, military equipment can be shipped between Bardufoss/Setermoen and southern Norway through Sweden. All for (probably) a fraction of the cost of Nordnorgebanen.
