Great video and I agree with him that I really hope this kind of thinking around helmets isn’t abandoned because of the issues Hövding had. My wife had one years ago and never had any problems and it was very popular around my area. Say what you want but I saw first hand how this type of helmet made even more people wear protection when biking especially those who would never wear a traditional helmet.

But the dependence in software, batteries, functional hardware, cost compared to a normal helmet will always make me go to the basic and proven solution, I already appreciate so much that my bike has a hub dynamo and I don't have to deal with any batteries that I can't imagine myself dealing with a battery for the helmet.

But I'm guessing I'm not the target market for this device, I like to ride even in bad weather, which a normal helmet helps to hold my raincoat hood in place.

If we focus solely in safety a hybrid solution could be best where the top of the head is covered by a normal helmet and the sides and neck could deploy an airbag without reducing mobility or field of view.

Oh I’m with you all the way in terms of there’s an app for everything and I loathe that trend. But I think the target group for this kind of helmet is less concerned with that and more willing to adapt the constraints that comes along with it. It’s important to remember that this design was so revolutionary different than every other “helmet” ever made (to my knowledge) that it tapped into a whole new market with vastly different needs. That’s also why I believe your hybrid idea while interesting misses this specific target group and just adds more to an already hard sell with normal helmets. That’s not to say it wouldn’t be incentivising to other specific cyclists.
