I was very off guard and disappointed when the last scene came, I like it now after reading the opinion of other people.

Spoilers ahead In 28 years later, we see how the kid is forced to become an adult, from the beginning leaving his power ranger behind and having to take harder and harder decisions until there's no innocence in him, just endurance and growth.

The gang at the end are his complete opposite, the kids who never grew, dress and behave as the content they watched on TV, fight like power rangers, basically kids that went thought life as unsupervised savages doing whatever they wanted.

It shows how the kid at the beginning of the movie and the protagonist grew in completely opposite directions, and hints how their views of the world will clash in the next movie.

High salary (the reason I moved here), close enough to home to commute by bike (not even forced to go to office), not too hard in terms of responsibilities, relaxed enough to not measure my time. Nice coworkers.

Although I have to say, the new management is ruining many of the things I like.

I have to mention that videos add a lot of value, sometimes the difference between being able to do a move or not is small changes in posture, for example the type of grip on the bar, palm position, the rotation of your shoulders, protraction of your back, etc.

I was stuck without success trying the handstand push-up until I saw a video of a guy indicating how to do the correct bending of the elbows, and it was suddenly way easier, same happened with the muscle up initial swing.

Many people also recommend recording yourself, I don't like to do it, but it's the best way to correct mistakes.

Even if the book does not improve your calisthenics, it will at least improve your sleep, those topics did wonders to clear my mind from other thoughts before sleeping.

At the beginning my knowledge came from YouTube, I basically target people with the body that I want to obtain, and evaluate if what they teach is good advice or not by do it myself, avoid as much as possible long videos, people selling services, or straight up gym bros.

There's also people who publish their full workout without cuts or talking, which shows more clearly how you could train.

    Some channels I can recommend:

    • @STRIQfit Very clear videos, good advice overall and includes progressions
    • @Kboges I find it more motivational than a guide for exercises.
    • @algecalistenia In Spanish (maybe you can enable English subs), probably my favorite channel, is a very down to earth guy with realistic goals and mindset, lately the quality when a bit down since he's focusing on coaching, but the rest of the videos are good.
    • @CaliToTheCrowd He has some videos of himself as a beginner who can give you a closer view of his approach to improve.

I did read a big chunk of Overcoming Gravity it's a very dense book, so I can't recommend it to everyone, but it's one of the best sources of knowledge, a bit on the advanced side and leaning into gymnastics, which can be a bit discouraging.

I also wrote a bit here about what I did right at the beginning: https://tildes.net/~health/1nl3/fitness_weekly_discussion#comment-fg7s

This chart will give you most of the progressions, but my way to go is find the skill and google the progressions myself, sometimes I take notes and try to link videos of others doing them (YT shorts are great for this)

Calisthenics makes it so easy to measure progress, specially at the moment that started to learn skills, I can set a skill goal, ex handstand push-up and see where I lack, can I stand my balance? Then I need to practice that, do I have enough strength to push myself up, then I need to find exercises to train shoulders (pike pushups...), combined with progressions for the move, tuck, straddle, etc. It's fairly easy to see your progress and truly know if you get closer to the move.

I also do the same with series, volume, intensity, rest time, right now I have a rest time of 1:30 minutes between series, when I started timing it, it was 3 minutes, there are many ways to measure progress and make the moves harder.

I do not use any tracking apps, at the beginning I only had a square per day, where I mark each workout to create the habit, at some point you just internalize when is right to go (rest days are important) and it feels bad to miss days.

Other than that, my only tracking is a cheap digital watch to chrono the rest and the whole workout time.

The best measure is your body, at then end that's your goal, if your body is sore but not in any pain the next day you did well and should be proud.

    what’s “web config” about?

A very convenient way to configure more settings, specially if you are new and want to have an overview of what's customizable.

Without arguments or with the browse command it starts the web-based configuration interface. The web interface allows you to view your functions, variables and history, and to make changes to your prompt and color configuration. It starts a local web server and opens a browser window. When you are finished, close the browser window and press the Enter key to terminate the configuration session.

    More info: fish_config

I agree that egui drawing directly to canvas it's a big issue and the reason I started to look into other UI frameworks, I would not use it for an app that might require heavy reading, but for other more niche UI it seems like a great solution.

Moved from ZSH to Fish, mostly because of the sluggish startup times of OMZ, I don't even have that many plugins (2), and following this guide did not improve it much.

Another major contributor to slow startup times was nvm detecting the correct node version on each directory, this was solved by fnm.

The moving was easier than expected, the defaults of fish are better, and having web config is genius, the only issue I had was git completions, I was too used to the ones from omz, and even with this plugin they vary a bit, not sure if I will write my own aliases to match my muscle memory or simply adapt myself to the existing ones to keep it more "zero conf".

Other than that, I got to a point on Rust where I understand all the syntax, ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, etc or at least it does not feel so alien anymore, I have to decide what to build with it yet, my background is mostly in frontend, so I look at Rust like a tool to build UI which is probably not the best use-case, I played with two interesting projects, Dioxus and egui (Their example page is incredible in terms of performance and detailed examples).

I should build something outside my comfort zone, more backend or library oriented (I take ideas), I do prefer to build something of substance than random exercises.

If you need convincing to use Rust, this guy does a wonderful job with his videos: @NoBoilerplate

This is the exact reason I decided to read the manga, I wanted to know the mysteries of the petrification device, I rarely read manga but the story was so intriguing that I needed it at a faster pace.

The anime is a good adaptation with basically no discrepancies in how the manga goes, so as long as you are fine waiting more to know the ending it's a good way to enjoy the story.

Kids around the world should be exposed to it to foster the next generation of scientists.

The reboot was a bit more crazy than the main story, but also with a beautiful message, I would also recommend it if you enjoy the main story.

I didn't share what I visit initially to not devoid the conversation into my own sites, basically most of my reading comes from manually curated RSS over the years using inoreader, mainly tech, indie blogs, or culture related, personal blogs are the ones that feel more humanly written, for a while I had the rule of only following people who create and not those who simply consume, while I still get the best content from RSS, most sites are dying, based in the last publication dates or the rate of publishing.

Then Hacker News, Tildes, next-episode.net and YouTube. For mainstream socials I have Instagram where I only follow close friends and don't use any of the other doomscrolling features.

I gave up on Reddit, I probably grew up from the need of every comment needing to be funny, I bet there are still some niche parts but as a whole the platform is terrible, I still visit from time to time /r/videos using my own client and their JSON API mostly to find new shows to watch.

What I would like to find more is sites like Hundredrabbits or the already mentioned lowtechmagazine, people passionate about what they do with the goal of sharing that knowledge and without the enshittification found in other platforms, I wish everyone simply had their own domain, and post anything they want with RSS.

Other sites that help me find something to read: The dailywebthing archives, Pinboard, Bear blog

Without linking any, my views of piracy have shifted over the years, now I illegally download first what I want and if it was worth it I buy it physically, specially with books, there's no way I would get into subscriptions for content I don't need.
