What are you reading these days?

I just finished Artemis by Andy Weir.

In general, it was very entertaining, but it didn't feel as good as his other books in terms of "science." This was more action-focused which is not bad, I did like the humor and how tangibly real the moon city felt.

Some of the characters are also great, humor-wise, the protagonist's quick comebacks and Svoboda always cracked me up.

I will try to read something from the past Tildes book club submissions since I found some real gems there, like Elder Race or Hyperion.

Spring Snow - Yukio Mishima (1965)
Mishima was one of the more prominent Japanese novelists from the late 40s thru the 60s. His story is incredible as a man let alone an author. This being my intro to him, I was surprised how immersed I was in the descriptive world he portrayed as Japan in the early 1900s. The psychological struggles of young love translates not only to the high sect setting of this book but to everyone who reads it. I felt like my own immature lusts and loves, jealousies and doubts were explained in excruciating beauty.

This being the first of a tetralogy, I’m continuing with the second book, Runaway Horses (1965). It’s such good reading.

I am reading Heir to the Empire. I've read it before but I got caught up deep in other hobbies before finishing the trilogy. I don't recall whether I finished the second novel. It's Star Wars, set after the original movie trilogy, for anyone not familiar.

I don't have much substantial to say about it other than that I enjoy reading it, but I guess Thrawn is a bit of a Mary Sue. I find it kind of hard to judge this kind of book where I'm already very familiar with and love the setting, so it's difficult to tell to which extent my enjoyment is just me having a great time with basically anything in that setting as opposed to qualities that would stand on their own. It doesn't have to though, and can lean on the familiarity of the setting and characters to achieve a pretty high pace.
