In addition to the obvious health benefits, I have easily saved over $4,000 in the past year by not buying cigarettes. In truth it's much more than that as I'd often grab a breakfast burrito or a mountain dew while I was in the gas station buying smokes. I almost never even go inside the gas station anymore, which is probably my favorite benefit.
Unfortunately, health wise, I don't feel much different. Nicotine is a stimulant, and without it I've been steadily gaining weight. People talk about food tasting so much better when they quit, and I haven't really noticed that at all. My sense of smell has improved tremendously, though that isn't always a benefit.
I still get cravings, though not daily, and I have dreams about smoking. Anti-smoking ads will often make me want a cigarette real bad, which I find amusing. Many of my peers that quit smoking around the same time just exchanged it for something else like vaping, chewing, or the new craze the nicotine pouches. It feels good to be completely nicotine free by comparison.

I started with The Final Empire and now I'm about a fifth of the way through The Well of Ascension. It's good enough I suppose but nothing I can't put down. I plan to finish the trilogy and then I don't know what.

It's not as captivating as the internet has led me to believe, but the bleakness doesn't bother me. I'll finish the trilogy at the very least, no idea where I'll go then.

Seriously though, this is a series that spans 11-17 books. What you're talking about is a small part of one book. I don't know who "the fantasy community" is, but they sound a little overly sensitive to call themselves fantasy fans. Shit gets much weirder than a little leather and torture.

Author: Terry Goodkind
Genre: Fantasy, Medieval Fantasy
Number of books: 11-17This is my favorite series. I first got into it as a teenager, then years later after college decided to give it a re-read to see if it still held up or if I was just a dumb kid. I think it does. I even recommended it to my boss at a previous job, a woman ~20 years my senior, and she liked it as well.
I state the number of books as 11-17 because, originally, the series ended at book 11: Confessor. And it was a fantastic ending. Even though the story was over, I was happy. Then, several years later, the author began writing some new material that he originally labeled as being related to the series, but not part of the series. Eventually his stance changed, these new books became part of the sword of truth series. I read them and though they were serious page turners, I sincerely regret it.
Anyway, the original series is 11 books. Wizards First Rule to Confessor and it's fantastic. There are 2 sort of prequel novels, Debt of Bones and The First Confessor that are good reads and, as prequels, don't really affect the story in the original series, which brings us to 13 books. The last 4, The Omen Machine to Warheart...I would strongly suggest not reading.
There was also a short TV series (on ABC maybe?) that covered the first 3 books. It had a noticeably low budget and crammed a lot of story into a short amount of time, things happened out of order, and overall it wasn't a very good representation of the novels, but it exists. Personally I think they spent the entire budget on overly sexy actors.

I realize it's been out awhile and has likely already been discussed here, but we don't go out much. It absolutely blew me away. It's a kids movie featuring an expressionless robot and talking animals but it brought me to tears about halfway through and they didn't stop until we left. For context, I'm a grown man raised by hardass boomer parents and I've seen arguably much sadder and more human movies and crying just isn't something I do. I've been thinking about it every day since.

Comment on Nutrient levels in retail grocery stores, or why you should be buying your groceries from Walmart in ~food
PraiseTheSoup I live in the Midwest, and I have felt exactly this way for years. I will not buy produce from Walmart, even if I'm already there for something else. I've been burned too many times. The produce at my local Walmart is consistently more wilted and "older" looking than the produce sold at our local Safeway. It's noticeable enough to make me choose to travel to Safeway instead if I know my grocery run will consist of any fresh items. I live in the PNW, so perhaps this is different in other regions.
