Thanks for the links. I'm fairly proficient at poaching eggs and making basic eggs benedict, though I've only made scratch hollandaise once. Pork belly is something I'm completely unfamiliar with. And unfortunately I am somewhat rural and the nearest ethnic markets are a couple hours away.

Oh man, it was so good. I had seen Halestorm once before nearly 15 years ago, and while I'm not really into their music so much anymore I can't deny that Lzzy Hale has incredible range and being a rockstar appears completely effortless for her. You could tell the whole band was having fun and loves what they do.

I was mostly there to see Lindsey Stirling, with no idea how her stuff would translate to a live show. But it was awesome! She had dancers and props and several outfit changes (for her and the dancers) and she was so full of energy.

The highlight of course was their duet "Shatter Me". It was just as awesome as I expected.

I am thankful to have seen a lot of good shows this year but I'd put this one at a solid number two, just behind Spiritbox.

Best thing I ate this year was breakfast at an unassuming diner in Duluth, MN. My buddy and I were in town to see Halestorm and Lindsey Stirling. The show was amazing, but the next morning left us ravenous. I googled breakfast and chose a place mostly at random.

What I ended up getting was eggs benedict with miso pork belly and gochujang. It was incredible. Unfortunately Duluth is a near 4 hour drive so I probably won't be back for several years.

I pretty much agree with everything you said and would like to throw in 2 more 2025 releases I saw, both in theaters even:

Tron: Ares (in 3D) - I was a teenager when Tron: Legacy came out, and it was also the first 3D movie I had ever seen. That's pretty much the only reason I went to see Ares in the theater, that and the original soundtrack by Trent Reznor. The audio and the visuals were great, but overall I found it to be extremely forgettable. And I think 3D is still just a gimmick and I expect it will be another 20 years before I see another 3D movie.

Zootopia 2 - Fantastic animation. Insanely detailed scenes. I think you could watch this a dozen times and notice different things in the background each time. Unfortunately it's pretty much the exact same movie as the first one plot-wise. Super safe, but still entertaining.

Also how did they not fix the fucking flying in this game???

The consensus when this trilogy came out seemed to be that it was an obvious cash grab where they simply ran the textures through an upscaler and left the rest of the game entirely unchanged. Even worse is that I think the trilogy uses ports of a mobile version or something equally heinous. I don't remember all the details, but everyone hated the trilogy and said to just play the originals. Which happens quite a lot these days unfortunately.

We had a decent snowstorm yesterday, and I started rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist (2003). I've gone through it every few years since my buddy in junior high first gave it to me 20 years ago on a dozen or so burned DVDs . I don't care for most anime, but this show is like comfort food to me.

Don't waste your money on Sorel. They were a good brand 30+ years ago, which is why you will hear my parents and other boomers absolutely swear by them. Unfortunately the brand was sold to Columbia like 20 years ago and now they make them in China but still charge outrageous premium prices for them, coasting off the misguided brand loyalty that our parents still have and also weirdly for fashion, I guess because they look pretty much the same as those old boots that did last for decades.

I live in Minnesota too. Northern, rural Minnesota. And I think you need to assess just how much boot your wife really needs. Is she going to be sitting a deer stand for hours at a time in 15° weather, where insulation really matters? Is she going to be working in fresh snow, where waterproofing really matters? If the answer to these questions is no, then I think a pair of mainstream winter boots like Columbia or north face or whatever you find at the sporting goods store will be just fine.

Personally I have a pair of Columbia's that I got for less than $100 nearly a decade ago, and they are still perfectly serviceable. I also bought a pair of Fubuki's just a couple weeks ago when I was down in your neck of the woods for a show at the armory. I got them on sale or I'd never have been able to justify the price tag and I love them so far, but I do not expect them to last very long.

But around here, the people actually working outside in the winter are probably wearing some form of insulated Mucks or Bogs or similar.

I learned how to replace RAM and install a discrete GPU thanks to the OG Guild Wars. I can't remember the exact card but it was a Sapphire Radeon and it was only like $40. It was a fun game, all my buddies at the time were playing it, and I lucked into an awesome guild and even helped win the guild war once.

That said, I was a teenager. I don't have time for MMOs anymore and I have no interest in playing this. I was also slightly triggered by the title, as the last "remake" to call itself "reforged" completely destroyed one of the greatest games of all time, that being Warcraft 3. I will never forgive blizzard for that atrocity.

For myself, I think my ears may be too big or something as they are just too quiet, but I will admit they are very comfortable and easy to wear.

Maybe worth a try to see if they work for you. The stakes are pretty low.

I'm currently about halfway through book 10 of the Wheel of Time series. It's been great so far and I didn't experience any of the mid-series burnout that the internet warned me about. I am getting anxious though as I'm nearing the point that the original author Robert Jordan dies and the series is finished by Brandon Sanderson. I have really enjoyed Roberts' way of writing so I hope I doesn't change much.

I was a teenager when Evanescence's Bring me to Life came out, and as such I've been a big fan of Amy Lee ever since. It comes as no surprise then that Spotify served me up her latest collab with Poppy, End of You, which came out only a couple months ago. But there was a third name listed on this track, Courtney LaPlante, an unknown to me.

Fast forward to last night, I saw Courtney and her band Spiritbox live and they were incredible. It was one of the craziest shows I've ever attended, and I've seen a lot of metal acts. Near-constant moshing and crowd surfing. I must have helped at least 10 people up myself. It was a bit exhausting for this aging metalhead but I had a blast. That woman can scream!

I used to work for an armored transportation company and one of our responsibilities was balancing ATMs. Checking anything in or out of the vault was an affair that required 2 people and you had to say everything out loud. ATMs were often named with number-letter combinations like "5787F". We all knew the NATO alphabet but after doing this every single day for a hundred different packages we'd invariably end up thinking up the silliest words to try and get the other person cracking up.

I don't have any specific examples, just wanted to tell my story and say that I see you OP and I support this thread.
