Ohh, that's a very bad subreddit. GamerGate-adjacent. They will be feasting on a subpar live action adaptation starring women. Still, thank you for the working mirror. Do not read any text on that...

Still, thank you for the working mirror. Do not read any text on that post, submission title nor comment section.

I just skimmed over the comments when I posted and I could tell it was not a place I'd want to spend much time, but everywhere else I looked, the video had already been taken down.

It's one of their better comments sections at least. Only a couple of racist comments.

Yeah even as a one off this feels terrible. The wonderful mix of "established IP", "lazy subversion with modern hot topics", and "cookie cutter script that probably was something else first". And...

And no i'm not going to even bother to hammer that into an obvious joke because it doesn't deserve even that.

I wanted to do a direct link to the video to try and avoid the comments, but the best I can do is a M3U8 file because Reddit encodes video and audio separately for some reason. How strange.

If there was interest in making this at some point, I'm surprised we didn't see an animated Adult Swim show with the same concept. Kind of in the spirit of how Venture Bros was a comedic, more adult take on Johnny Quest.

I read part of the leaked script with some friends a while back. And let me just say, I genuinely couldn't tell how much was satire and how much was serious. Parts of it felt like it HAD to be a parody, but other parts? They were playing it totally straight, in a bad way.

It has one of the weirdest tones I've encountered in fiction, it felt like they couldn't decide on whether they wanted to go for satire or serious. The final result is just... cringey.

One highlight to show what I mean: in the scene before the big disaster with Mojo's death, the girls were talking with the Professor and Miss Bellum (who was dating him), with the professor reminding the girls about a character bible. Stuff like reminding them how they should behave in accordance with said bible. The whole time there was obvious tension between the girls and the professor, and Miss Bellum and the professor. After the girls left to go fight, the scene ended with Miss Bellum saying "Drake, I think we should break up."

We all just burst out laughing at that line because it was just so... I don't know, blunt? Abrupt? And trust me, that line was not written for laughs or parody purposes. It was supposed to be a scene showing the mounting tension in the Utonium household that led to everything unraveling. It was written seriously, even with the character bible bit. So the fact we laughed at it... It was not the writers' intention.

Warner Bros blocked the video on copyright grounds, which tells me this is legit. I found an alternative upload but unfortunately WB blocked that too... First impressions: This has to be a parody....

First impressions: This has to be a parody. It feels like it's deliberately bad writing that's trying too hard to be one of these contrived live action reboots that's loosely based on the original source material.

And I'm not just writing this because of the diverse cast, the fact that Mojo Jojo has been outright replaced by a father & son (named Mojo & Jojo respectively), nor that no teenager would ever say "I'm not wearing that dress anymore, it's gender-normative and ass-ugly." It's that the writing in general is so horrifically bad that it makes you think this has to be a parody. I mean Donald Faison is a great actor and if I were in his shoes and got handed that script, I would have walked off the fucking set unless the point was to release a deliberately bad parody of live-action reboots.

Take the scene where Professor Utonium is trying to talk his daughters into reuniting and cracking jokes about how creating three normal girls would've been weird. That is absolutely not how a father would communicate with children who have gone through past trauma, like accidentally killing a man.

Also, the trailer felt like a synopsis of the entire show, not just a compelling teaser.

I am getting serious Breaking Bad 2 vibes from this.

I agree with the YouTube comments that this felt like a dropout style parody.

I think this was super great as a trailer only. I chuckled. I know it would have fallen apart quickly - good call not picking it up, CW.

I have pretty bad taste but I honestly would have watched this. I don't mind a good hate watch every now and then - I watched all three seasons of La Brea.

My partner and I love this stuff. Our favourite show is Insatiable which got cancelled on Netflix, but by God that show was so fun.
Sad this got canned, maybe CW will find a way to weasel around the cease and desist.

You're not alone! It seems like an entertaining subversion and clearly triple tongue in cheek. I could think of far worse things to watch.

I read part of the script, and while I enjoy "bad" TV... Well, I don't think it's as enjoyable as you might hope. It seemed like they couldn't decide on whether they wanted to be a parody or serious, so the tone was pretty inconsistent and mostly just had us cringing. I still can't decide how much was intentional and how much was just really, genuinely bad writing and executive decisions to appeal to... Actually, I still don't know what demographic they were aiming for. The same one as Velma, maybe?
