Soldier drama? Man, battlefield 6 has me covered. If you want to take me out of the driver's seat, it's gonna have to be something actually interesting.

I've been rewatching South Park from the beginning, currently on season 10.

It's so interesting how these episodes do such an amazing job with the social commentary while also being just plain stupid in concept. The satire is always right on. The absurdity is such a reprieve from the seriousness of life constantly thrust upon us.

Lots of examples to choose from. The episode where everyone gets a Prius and the whole town almost causes a supercell formed of Smug instead of smog. There's always a fun little moral to the story, notably Kyle remarks that owning a Prius is good and will probably save the planet some day, but those who have one shouldn't act better than other people who don't.

Every episode has just been so silly and I'm grateful Trey and Matt worked so hard the last few decades to not pull punches.

Should've gotten it on PS5 but it's too late now!

Small scale is a lot of fucking fun though, I can't lie. It's tight and it's fast and it's accessible and it makes COD feel like a Saturday cartoon.

Damn, did the mid-range warfare feel like a homecoming for which I didn't earn, though, haha

Been on the Battlefield 6 open beta.

Good fun. Admittedly, I haven't played a battlefield game since Bad Company 2 (LOL) and the last COD I played seriously was Ghosts.

It feels as good as I could hope for. The theater is there, the sound design is there. The gunplay feels quick but not comical. The physics feel grounded but not stiff.

My computer wasn't particularly fast enough to run larger ground wars--but that's okay, I prefer a smaller lobby anyway.

The rockabilly mania of Flight b741 inspires me too. I can't help but get misty listening to Mirage City or Daily Blues, both so positive in their message of escaping the, well, blues.

King Gizzard's Phantom Island - their first record with a full orchestra.

It's good. If you're a diehard you'll probably feel like it doesn't have the legs to stand up next to Nonagon or BF3000 but honestly it's fantastic and a little closer to the guitar riffing I'd expect from the Dead. It's a little more contained, a little more sobering. But a sonic achievement that really doesn't disappoint.

    Keep the gizzard train running!

    I watched Together last night.

I saw a comment on a reddit thread that referenced it as beginner body horror, which I can agree with.

Some uncomfortable scenes, some truly funny ones, and the performances by Brie and Franco are good. Thought the script was fine and many of the shots were simply okay.

I think where it shines is in its pacing and sound design. Slow tracking shots, moments where the sound and theater of the mind play up the horror, all done pretty well. There are themes that I wish it maintained through to the end, but it ultimately made for an allegorical sweet treat that I could get behind.

I do have a gripe with some parts of the soundtrack. There's this huge tendency in horror/thrillers in Hollywood lately to either show or imply some huge cerebral or horrific plot point/book end while using the soundtrack for another famous thriller. I have no idea how composers are getting away with this but I am bit insulted to be shown a gruesome scene and have directors think "they won't even notice it's the same track from that other fucked up movie that everyone loved."

The Silo series on AppleTV did the same thing with the sound design from Dune, which is a little less obvious than Together/Hereditary:
    Silo: https://youtu.be/LEoLro2TlIM?t=40
    Dune: https://youtu.be/T0P6YDveLsM?t=15

    It's ridiculous!

    Edit:
    Hereditary ending: https://youtu.be/MVnSFj6XQZY?t=107

    Together ending: https://youtu.be/iUJjiWOECxk?t=28

How interesting it is to create a movie and have me invested but in the final moments break my immersion because the score decided to be a little reductive and draw the same melodic drone from a 2018 movie. I'm insane right now haha.

First time I ever heard of Bill Maher, I was watching a bunch of comedy central present standup comedy and Kyle Dunnigan did a fantastic set in which he does "an impression of Bill Maher doing an impression of Jack Nicholson" and while I had no idea who Bill Maher was, I thought it was a great impression LOL

It turned out to be a damn fine impression anyway, because Bill Maher turned into that guy shouting "you can't handle the truth, okay"

I think many in my group took a long time to activate the political gene - we were learning our way out of toxic systems, parental shortcomings, and learning what the recession had done to us. But we got there, it just took a lot of conscious comedians like Chapelle to jump start it.

Grew up with Chapelle, had a ton of respect for him. Had something to lose, Bill Maher did not, and sometimes it's just exhausting listening to a voice whom I did not grow up with whom I do not respect.

So interesting how Friendship had me busting guts within the opening scene, and Happy Gilmore 2 I was like a petrified zombie trying to take it's medicine - I was just awestruck that the one bit in the movie is just Happy opening various items and drinking the liquor he hid inside. Everything else felt like it had zero passion.
