I grew up with an alcoholic dad and a functional crack using mom. They fought often and loudly, and installed a massive inner and outer critic in me, as well as cPTSD, self esteem issues, drinking problems, and other problems stemming from anxiety. My teeth are unkempt from freeze dissociation, my body is large and in charge from binge eating, and my impulses are reactive and protective against change and it's caused me to close myself to several romantic relationships which had to be ended due to insecurities.

I was living with my mom and we were "taking care of each other" in that we were enabling each others destructive habits and learned helplessness.

As of this month, I have my own place which is within walking distance of my full time clerical job.

This is my first time living in my own apartment and I am over the moon about it. It is safe, it is clean, there is no broken glass, no fleas, no eternal filth that can't be scrubbed from beneath the service. I truly feel like my life can finally begin.

Rubblebucket - Year of the Banana

Just came out today actually. I am loving it. It's rubblebucket continuing their streak of original songwriting. They stay oh so weird and simple and light, but heady and introspective and constantly look for the light within. Psychedelic pop. They are really lovely humans, every one of them!

Frankie and the Witch Fingers West coast, hard rock/psychedelic fuzz! To me their music is like a cross between the Beach Boys and The Osees. Their riffs are simple enough to be keyed into on a dancing and headbanging level, and the lyrics and songwriting are so visionary in execution that it makes me feel like I'm part of the counter culture. Highly recommend!

I am not satisfyingly contributing to the conversation in here at all, zero expertise, I would just like to say I am struggling to make rent and am that I really hate the landscape of techno-futurism—yes, because I don't understand it, but also because I shouldn't have to understand it to know that its been built on tiny aching fingers. I'm just disassociated and broke and I don't want to have to start a business to define my worth and live in dignity

Oh joy, the massive fortune 500 company only made 9 trillion dollars in its return instead of 11 trillion. I'm sure glad we live in a society that incentivizes constant shareholder growth or else you face dissolution. Capitalism really does encourage freedom through the free market and everyone is better for it!

It's pretty emblematic of the original Alien movie, which also maintained a large sense of mystery and exposition long before showing the actual monster. Which in my opinion does not affect the quality of the game, but enhances it.

Yeah, old reviews might not have gotten it right, and new reviews might be trying to capitalize. But I remember the game really shining through back in the day. And it feels just as loved and tight and lean as I remember.

Maybe by my 20-30th hour, my opinion will change, but I would then assume it's because I spent most my time hiding in lockers and not actually escaping the AI.

It does feel a bit different than something like Amnesia. A game like Amnesia might be wholly interesting to watch a Let's Play, where, in my opinion, the magic that comes from Alien Isolation is from the stalking sensation that you get from being in the driver's seat. Amnesia feels like a living creepy pasta, where Alien feels like being lost in a metal jungle.

Alien: Isolation finally in my sights again. I played about 5 missions originally when I got it Xbox One like 10 years ago, but gave up out of either fatigue or straight up terror. Told myself I couldn't finish it without someone else in the room with me but honestly, older and wiser, makes it even more fun to play!

The AI is still absolutely terrifying, the map design is brilliant, gorgeous, perhaps a bit punishing with regard to back tracking, but it also encourages memorization of hallways and vents and escape routes and -- I just am loving it. It feels like Alien 1.

The sound design alone deserves a lifetime achievement! It's amazing.

Frankie and the Witch Fingers has been my fuzzy, psychedelic punk/rocker love affair for a while now. Nothing really taps in to my communist, feministic values more than this stuff right here. Saw them live in Chicago last night and they rocked the house down. Highly highly recommend if you want a SoCal, surf metal, anti fascist counter culture good time.

Has she condemned scientology though? A nice a PR piece, but it's still screams organizational privilege that pisses on the ideals that Chester stood for. Why not use an artist who doesn't have a checkered history, or one who has at least denounced the cult that promotes them?

Down With The System, Serj Tankian

I'm a few chapters into it, and it's healthy and nuanced background into his early childhood and upbringing that led him to be the outspoken, humanitarian front man for a best selling rock band. System of a Down could probably be called responsible for cracking my head like an egg and letting some capitalist thought systems drain out.

Most people my age, 30, can easily remember B.Y.O.B., or Toxicity, and the lyrics still live in our heads rent free. "why do they always send the poor?" I am really enjoying learning how and why Serj Tankian is the way he is, and I haven't even really gotten to any SOAD stories yet.
