I think you all would really enjoy his style--you never know what's going on, you just know he's doing it on purpose and it's going to be an absolute riot.

Highly recommend, everyone looking for a refreshing injection of comedy that really kinda defies all modern comedy cliches. I was laughing the whole time

For clarity's sake, the parent comment that was deleted was quoting @ me a reddit comment that currently has around 3k upvotes, saying:
This is my problem with her too. It's exploitative to cosplay as an inherently political subculture and then turn around and refuse to champion that subculture when they need it most.
My response:
That's very emotionally charged rhetoric as well, thanks. It has nothing qualifying it, it's just hard judgement with zero nuance. If Chappell isn't doing enough, there are surely more constructive ways to call out one of the biggest pop stars "cosplaying" being gay(???) than just calling her a poser over and over.
It's just: how we use our energy and our words matters, and this is not the best use of one's time. "Calling out hypocrisy" is one thing, but again, why are we attacking each other, other queers? She just got handed the keys to the kingdom as a young kid, and now she's a poser exploiting an entire subculture--this is all or nothing thinking and the Internet is very good at banging that gavel
Edit: and I am so sympathetically aware of how painful it is to be queer in today's age and then look at someone fulfilling their wildest dreams so young and wonder how it is that they can make it and we can't. But that's not Chappel's responsibility to fix alone, and it's our responsibility to direct our anger accordingly, efficiently, and fairly.
Love you, all.
Thank you for my first "exemplary" comment, it's been a hard week.

But it's really easy to get prickly and obtain groupthink in these pop reddit threads where we must eat each other for our faults than our enemies for their sins

I had a stronger goatee region growing up; trying to grow out the rest ended up pigeonholing me into a chin strap length that would ride too high or too low if i trimmed it slightly wrong, resulting in me cyclically orbiting planet neckbeard for my early 20s.
Thankfully, I learned to be okay with looking a little long in the tooth when my beard got long - I think letting it grow into a wild-man beard was key to me getting it to the hedgey length it is now. I really love it.
But definitely for the longest time I couldn't get off the chin strap because I kept trimming it and then the trim would look absolutely terrible, so it kept getting lopped off at the first hint of an error.

It's a nice realistic mechanic but it's not like that's ALL the game is. It's a game that really excels around the story. If the game is boiled down to walking slowly thru camp and skinning animals in real time, yeah it sounds like a slog. But if you're experiencing it for the first time as galloping into town, playing a game of poker ... Later, getting strung up by your feet and having to escape your way from an en enemies camp while bloodied and beaten ... And the exciting train chases ... There's true grit and incredible performances in the story that I think is worth playing for.

They fought often and loudly, and installed a massive inner and outer critic in me, as well as cPTSD, self esteem issues, drinking problems, and other problems stemming from anxiety. My teeth are unkempt from freeze dissociation, my body is large and in charge from binge eating, and my impulses are reactive and protective against change and it's caused me to close myself to several romantic relationships which had to be ended due to insecurities.
I was living with my mom and we were "taking care of each other" in that we were enabling each others destructive habits and learned helplessness.
As of this month, I have my own place which is within walking distance of my full time clerical job.
This is my first time living in my own apartment and I am over the moon about it. It is safe, it is clean, there is no broken glass, no fleas, no eternal filth that can't be scrubbed from beneath the service. I truly feel like my life can finally begin.

Just came out today actually. I am loving it. It's rubblebucket continuing their streak of original songwriting. They stay oh so weird and simple and light, but heady and introspective and constantly look for the light within. Psychedelic pop. They are really lovely humans, every one of them!

Their riffs are simple enough to be keyed into on a dancing and headbanging level, and the lyrics and songwriting are so visionary in execution that it makes me feel like I'm part of the counter culture. Highly recommend!

I am not satisfyingly contributing to the conversation in here at all, zero expertise, I would just like to say I am struggling to make rent and am that I really hate the landscape of techno-futurism—yes, because I don't understand it, but also because I shouldn't have to understand it to know that its been built on tiny aching fingers. I'm just disassociated and broke and I don't want to have to start a business to define my worth and live in dignity

Yeah, old reviews might not have gotten it right, and new reviews might be trying to capitalize. But I remember the game really shining through back in the day. And it feels just as loved and tight and lean as I remember.
Maybe by my 20-30th hour, my opinion will change, but I would then assume it's because I spent most my time hiding in lockers and not actually escaping the AI.
It does feel a bit different than something like Amnesia. A game like Amnesia might be wholly interesting to watch a Let's Play, where, in my opinion, the magic that comes from Alien Isolation is from the stalking sensation that you get from being in the driver's seat. Amnesia feels like a living creepy pasta, where Alien feels like being lost in a metal jungle.
Thank you, friend. Wow, I am grateful to hear it resonated with you :-) now more than ever, balance is key. If this were a battlefield, damn right we take charge at the systemic issues and make change. But crucifying the drummer boy for playing the drum? Well that is an interesting strategy!
Hope you have a good weekend!
