The latest batch of Andor episodes have left me emotionally drained. There's so much crammed into the episodes, it needs some time to breathe. I do wish that each year got its own season, but so far I'm very happy with it.

Everything about the show is just hitting it for me, there's so much nuance and little hints of stuff that happens off screen that makes you feel rewarded when you piece it together.

I would have liked more unique tracks in the soundtrack, it seems like there is a lot of reuse to the Season 1 OST, which was great but I'd love new tracks to fall in love with - although I will happily stick on the 1 hour version of the Niamos S2 remix that it feels like the Star Wars YouTube channel was shit posting with, hah!

In reading the books (only Legends), I've been trying to find stories that take place int he universe but aren't all Jedi v Sith. The Coruscant Nights trilogy (which for some reason is four books) seems close in that its neo-noir, but it still isn't away from the Jedi enough.

Andor absolutely hits this sweet spot for me... at least for now.

I still can't get over how amazing the sets are.

I have been watching Only Murders in the Building on Hulu.
Way back when I was a big fan of Steve Martin and SCTV (and Martin Short). It's not a fantastic show but it is entertaining enough and sort of cozy. I'm currently about halfway through the second season. I see on the 3rd season there are more guest stars which may be good or bad, hopefully it doesn't turn into a Poochie situation.

    Positives are

    • I always like Steve Martin and Martin Short
    • The guest stars so far have been pretty good.
    • The "Arconia" building is interesting, I like places with hidden corridors

    Criticisms are:

    • Maybe the characters are a little bit lazy.
      • Steve Martin is doing a mild variation of his fussy character as seen in Planes Trains and Automobiles
      • Martin Short is doing his "foppish guy who is too into the entertainment industry" which I've seen a lot.
      • Selena Gomez is fine but doesn't stand out much
    • I think the show is trying a little too hard to be meta. A central theme is that they are creating a podcast, and they use commentary about the podcast to refer to the show itself and to the fans.

I hate how they stand with that stupid mic to record the podcast when really they should have a That 70s Show-style table spin where they all have their bit to close out the episode or whatever....

      Cameos ruin TV.

Love this show, but the first season is easily the best. Selena Gomez is not a good actress in my opinion, but Martin and Short carry the show. I think people are either into their schtick or they're not. If they're not, the show doesn't really work. For me, it works.

The barrage of guest stars in the later seasons does become a bit distracting, and the setups become increasingly implausible, but so far it's never veered into genuinely bad tv. Just less good, compared to the first season.

I'm trying to watch more CBC content, and came upon two purchased shows,

PEN15, where two friends in their 30s play a fictitious version of their 13 year old selves alongside actual 13 year olds, entering their grade 7 year and discovering teen experiences together in the long ago year of 2000. Max cringe, but sweet and sincere like a better written, much less gross and less pandering Big Mouth.

Picnic at Hanging Rock - the 2018 mini series - set in 1900 Australia, a House of Leaves style period mystery drama starring Natalie Dormer (Margeary Tyrell). The style and topic really aren't for me but Natalie is so pretty and the costumes gorgeous.

I had started rewatching Schitt's Creek on Netflix a while ago, but didn't realize that they only go up to the end of season 3. The available episodes end at David and Patrick's first kiss. But CBC came to my rescue, for free! They stream all the episodes. CBC also has been streaming the Northern Super League soccer games.

I've almost finished unplugging from most of the streaming apps, but I'm going to keep CBC (and Dropout). They make some great content!

I've been watching The Dick Van Dyke Show with my gf for the past months, one or two episodes each night.

I love the acting, between slapstick and trying to keep it grounded to reality, you can tell they did most scenes in one take, probably because back then recording in film was expensive, which feels unusual and refreshing compared to modern shows.

Recommending it to anyone who wants a comfort comedy show, all seasons are on YouTube for free.
