Recommendations for Rome in September

Hi tildes

My GF and I are coming to Rome in a couple of months to celebrate our 5th anniversary :)

I was wondering if you have any recommendations, we have 5 full days i the city, and we would love to explore some of the local gems, beyond the must-see tourist destinations

Was just there in October last year, high recommend getting a hotel that is within walking distance of a metro station. The metro is basically a big X overlaying the city so there are spaces where it doesn't easily get into. I was a bit silly to think that I'd be willing to walk so much further for a slight savings on hotel and ended up in a cab most nights to get home, carry some cash for that.

I enjoyed the guided walking Tours from an aptly named company named "Walks". I booked via city experience. I did a decent number of them. If not religious, the Vacation can be a thing for you but it did absolutely nothing for me though the old barracks is now a more modern art exhibit and that was cool. The Sistine Chapel is painted on a ceiling that is a hundred feet up and it's asses to elbows with the Guard being librarians telling you to shush, I enjoyed the expanded view that was a replicate on the ground level better.

Highly recommend Trastevere area of the city though not near metro lines, it has some of the best food.

I heard of pick pockets being a thing but personally never felt like I was ever at risk other than from the street vendors (most memorable one was an African bracelet design) on every other corner trying to give me things to ask for a donation. I personally think that wearing it is a sign of a mark so kept them but immediately took them off.

    Bring really good walking shoes.
There's a really cool tea shop literally next to the Spanish Steps, my partner loves high tea experiences.
Trapizzao is pretty cool pizza funnel food, it's by the Vacation plaza.
Food is late as hell (as an American) so most early opening places are tourist traps.
While in Rome, I didn't have much of an English only language problem but learn some basic points for easier times.
Oh! Bring a water bottle. There are big nose fountains everywhere to refill for free in the city. Tastes like a flat la croix mineral water, but really cold and refreshing.

Visit the Colusseum for sure. Entering it was awe inspiring for me. Vatican city as well. Trevi Fountain is good place too. The real tip here is to buy tickets online for whatever you want to visit. Otherwise you'll need to wait in line for a long time just to buy tickets

Take a cooking class and learn how to make pasta and deserts from scratch. You'll get to taste your stuff after they cook it and it's fun.

A less obvious tip for food is to look for genuine Gelato. Biggest tip I recieved and found online is the containers. Real gelato needs to be stored in metal containers, usually with lids. The more natural flavors like lime or lemon are really good.

Try out the scooters like Lime, Bird, etc. It's a fun way to get around the city. Speaking of which, if you take the metro, be careful for pickpockets. Was there for a week and had three different failed incendents around me. I'm sure there were plenty who weren't lucky. A metro pass is a good tool if you need to travel around the city. It's good for the bus and subway

If you can sacrifice a couple days, a trip to Venice could be fun as well. We wanted to do that, but it was last minute.

I'm not sure if that was helpful, but that's what I got from my trip.
