Been a while since I've been excited about a StarWars series/movie/... This thing kicks my nostalgia into high gear. I'm... hopeful? But not necessarily convinced.

    That being said...

I'm a little wary of new sith (or perhaps, just new random ppl with red lightsabers?) just cropping up all over the place. I'm sure it can be done well, but the new movies had some trouble just popping sith into being with little backstory just to create the necessary antagonists.

Definitely holding off on judgement though - it is just a trailer.

For sure. Say whatever you want about Phantom Menace, the Duel of the Fates piece is some of John Williams' finest work.

Regarding your concerns, I'm with you. I think it's hard to find villains that fit into the established expectations outside of the Sith and maybe Bounty Hunter archetypes. I honestly think Disney should consider leaving the Skywalker timeline alone and focus on way different eras of SW. Some of which, I think they're already doing. In those settings, you're working with a blank slate and can come up with a believable reason for those antagonists to exist.

I also think SW is a robust enough IP that they can afford to live a little. I think I've seen something about a writers retreat they've hosted where people could just come up with all sorts of novel ideas, to get more original ideas into the IP again. Basically, move away from the established sights, settings, character archetypes and narratives and find something genuinely new that synergizes with the rest of the SW universe. You'd probably want to pursue such a thing at lower budgets without calling anything canon, and then see what sticks. I don't think fans would mind.

E: Oh yeah, absolutely the music and Ewan McGregor that made my nostalgia tingle.

Regarding your concern, they are well established within the current rebooted expanded universe, in particular in the animated series and in the Fallen Order video game.
