Having watched a few of the episodes now, it seems like Tom Gleeson is struggling to find exactly where he wants to land. He has kind of waffled back and forth arbitrarily between going with the audience's cheers for points and then doing the opposite.

This is light entertainment, so it isn't like an actual criticism of the show. Maybe he is going for unpredictable for laughs. It just seems like he will hit some of the same growing pains that the UK version got with the arbitrary bonus points causing a bit of a stir in early seasons. I also like his banter a bit more than the NZ taskmaster, at least the first season.

Tom Cashman is making a great TM Assistant. He is bringing a lot of the same energy level to the tasks and banter that Alex Horne does without needing to fall into exactly the same role in relation to the TM.

The contestants are growing on me, as they almost always do. Julia Morris is absolutely killing it on the in-person tasks.

I think he's a bit lighter than Greg, where the NZ TM is more serious than Greg. I like Tom for leaning into the absurdity of it. I appreciate all three (UK, AU, NZ) because I think it makes sense for each TM and assistant to land generally in their own vibe rather than needing to precisely mimic Greg and Alex. They're in the same vicinity just not trying to duplicate each other.

Yeah, I also really like that the NZ and AU Taskmasters and TM Assistants have distinct characters, and they aren't just trying to copy Greg and Alex's dynamic exactly. Although I do have to admit that it took me a while to warm up to Jeremy Wells. I still think he needs to explain himself a lot more when it comes to scoring, but his super serious personality and super dry humour has grown on me.

I'm not convinced that Jeremy just isn't leaning into the "points are at my whim" aspect harder but I haven't wrapped my head around a pattern yet.

Yeah, I think it's a bit of a schtick too. I just don't like it as much as when the Taskmaster does explain at least some of their reasoning behind giving out the points. He started doing it a bit in the 2nd season though, so hopefully he does it ever more often as the seasons go on. Regardless, I'm excited to see the other seasons. I really like Paul Williams as the TM Assistant, and the NZ humour in general is up my alley.
