Oh man I really can’t overstate how popular Chaves (El Chavo) was/is in Brazil. Can’t speak for other Latin American countries, but any Brazilian past a certain age will have everything from the theme song to all their silly laughs ingrained in our brains. Incredibly lasting impact on pop culture, as legendary to us as Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse. I still regularly use jokes and references from Chaves in my day-to-day life and I haven’t seen the show in years. Thanks for posting this, OP.

Edit: actually just remembered a story that perfectly exemplifies the lasting impact of these shows. Back in college, some friends of mine were going to a comicon-like event in the U.S. and invited me along. They wanted to cosplay, so everyone dressed up as different heroes or anime characters. I dress up as El Chapolin Colorado, since I already had a shirt with the logo and some random yellow shorts, so I just got a red body suit to wear underneath and made a silly antena thingie and didn’t think anything of it until we actually went and I got stopped like twice as often as everyone else in my group combined. Got lots of fist bumps and high fives and “EL CHAPOLIN!” and even some picture requests for my silly last-minute diy extremely-amateurish costume. Fun times.

As a Uruguayan, I can say the same thing, El Chavo was massive here. I used to watch it every day as a child and loved it. Thanks for sharing the video.
