Absolutely this. I take statins for hyperlipidemia and people freak out when they hear it. I get zero side effects and my cholesterol levels are under control, but people see it as "the easy way out" and therefore the wrong decision.
Edit: I'm not self medicating, they were prescribed to me.

It's about a town where all the men have died in a mining accident. It's funny how they manage to still make most main characters men with that plot, but it really is great.

I've been a secondary school teacher for 10 years. The names for the grades here are different, but my students are about 16 years old. I agree with the other comments, it definitely got worse after the pandemic.

I have always avoided working with 15 year olds because their hormones are at a peak and they tend to be much meaner to each other. My experience was that from 16 on they got much better at being civilized. But since the pandemic it's exactly like that one year of social development is missing. The academic aspect is also behind, but I think the social aspect is more notable in my case.

I wish I knew how my pandemic students are doing now at university. I imagine they might be struggling even more than normal, which would be a failure of the system.

On the other hand, I also teach teenagers and adults at a language institute and that experience had much better results. We were surprised to see that the exam results were similar to other years and they haven't got worse since, so I guess the context changed a lot.

Personally, the start of the pandemic was a really dark time for me. We miss only one day of classes, they told us that we needed to start teaching online immediately. Which was a major struggle for me because I'm not too technologically savvy and I'm not sure I even had my own computer. We had to manage with what we had at home and my husband is a teacher too, so we would have to teach at the same time. Thank God for him who became my IT guy, and thank God we didn't have children. I'm not sure I would have coped otherwise. I bearly did, I remember holding until the class had finished to start crying.

After I had the materials and I got used to the program I felt much better, and at some point I ended up enjoying working in my Crocs, but it took a few months.

Yeah, I don't think all videogames are psychologically addictive, the same way I don't think all Netflix content is either. But if I have to choose to compare Netflix addiction to something, it's closer to videogames than to alcohol. BTW, I love watching tv (both before streaming and now), I love videogames and I love board games too. I have no intention on stopping because I agree with you that there are great aspects to these hobbies. I also recognize that I might spend too much time on them and I could have a better balance with other kinds of activities.

I understand that, but watching endless hours of TV was also common before Netflix for a reason. Shows were also trying to catch you back then, albeit the tactics might have changed. Videogames are also psychologically addictive, without the physical factor both in the addiction making and in the consequences to your internal organs.

The problem with modern TV is that for many, it is closer to alcoholism than a one-off drink. One you watch that first episode—take that first drink—it often doesn’t stay at one episode—as it doesn’t stay at one drink.

I understand and agree with what the author is saying in general, but I'm not sure this comparison is fair. The second drink doesn't continue the story of the first one. It's only reasonable that if I start a new show and I like it, I will at some point watch the second episode. If I like a drink I can enjoy just that one and I'm not missing the ending.

I think it quite reasonable to keep your mind on that check list right now. You really do have to do all this stuff. It's ok to postpone some feelings a bit.

Some years ago my uncle died from an accident with a horse. I understand your feelings of rage/bargaining. The fact that you know it's a common feeling doesn't take away the fact that you are indeed feeling it and I don't think you should fight that. You have some long and hard days ahead of you, and in the middle term you will be grieving.
I'm glad you have a lot of support, don't hesitate to use it, to ask for help. If it's possible for someone to travel with you, that would be best. After dealing with the paperwork consider therapy if you don't already do it.
I'm so sorry this happened, it sucks so much. Good luck with everything.

I'm not a great example, I've only read crime and punishment. I read it because my mother loves it and I wanted to give it a try. It was certainly punishment. Reading his thoughts and plans for not getting caught for pages and pages drove me mad. All to in the end

    ending spoiler.

    give himself in.

Many times I had problems following which character they were referring to because they use plenty of nicknames associated to a first name, but I had no idea which name it came from. One part I remember really enjoying though, I don't remember if it was a full chapter or just a few pages, was a time the main character goes into a pub and starts talking to a stranger. That stranger's life story was fascinating, and so well written. Hope this helps!
