I personally feel like the whole franchise peaked between Halo 3 and the Forerunner trilogy of books written by Greg Bear. I kind of dropped off reading the novels after that and the last game I played was Halo 4. Maybe this will be what renews my interest in the series.

I can forgive 343 for that because I think they made up for it with the Cortana character arc. They also weren't too misleading with their marketing.

I agree with you there. I definitely lost interest with the game franchise after Halo 4. It just seems like they took it in the wrong direction.
What makes you think it was the wrong direction? I'm a Halo lifer and it just felt like more Halo to me.
