All that being said, this next season has me both anxious and excited with the first female doctor (I loved The Master being female) but also a change in writers. Peter Capaldi is one of my favorite doctors. I was a fan before he was cast as The Doctor and I was sorry to see his tenure relatively short.
Is anyone else a little anxious about the next season besides me? Does anyone else think new writers will breathe some new life into the Dr. Who Universe? What do you anticipate changing?
We're eager to get back to Dr. Who. On the contrary, we thought he was terrible, we can overcome bad writing but couldn't stand his mannerisms and all around performance. We forced ourselves to at...

Matt Smith is a good actor (His performance in 'The Crown' worth a watch) but as Dr. Who his personality was rather awkward in my opinion. Perhaps it was the writing and/or direction?

So it's a little hard to nail down exactly what I disliked, since I haven't seen Dr. Who since around the release of season 5 or 6, but I think what killed it for me is that they started reoriented the writing around the wildly popular David Tennant, and uh, less popular Martha and Donna, making the show more about the Doctor and less about the companions as their own distinct characters. That worked plenty well with someone like Tennant as the doctor, but the dynamic sorta started breaking down with Matt Smith, who I otherwise didn't dislike, and think would have excelled as a Doctor more like 9.
Yes, I'd agree. Over the course of the revival, the writing I think has been all over the map from outstanding to nearly groan worthy and difficult to get through. Perhaps that balance between The...

Perhaps that balance between The Doctor and his companions is what made the very popular and enduring tenure of Tom Baker work so well. You make some excellent points I hadn't thought about.
Well. I'm definitely behind. Time to catch up! I haven't watched Who since Capaldi's first season.
If you're in the UK, you're in luck - all the NuWho episodes are on iPlayer for the next few months.
Unfortunately not. I've generally had to sail the high seas to find Who episodes in decent quality, especially during airing seasons.

Who is your favorite Dr. Who?
Did you like Missy?
Hm, I kind of fell out of Dr. Who in the Matt Smith era, but I think I'll give this season a watch if they're bringing in new writers.

I rather enjoyed his goofiness and overall childlike wonder of the universe. Capaldi's always seemed to be like 'I'm the Doctor, bow down to me'.
