The OA - has anybody else seen this on Netflix?

Tags: netflix, ask

I just finished watching The OA. Wow, that was a really unexpected and interesting show. Coming of age / Sci-Fi-ish / Magical Realism, what an amazing show. The ending got this grown ass man emotional. Has anyone else watched this? Thoughts? Anything else like this out there?

I haven't seen another show quite like the OA, although The Leftovers on HBO reminds me of it in some ways.

I forgot about it too. I remember liking it alright, thinking the writing was a bit lazy in parts, but entertaining enough. I don't think I'm the target demographic for that genre, but I tend to like fantasy type stuff because it gets my mind off more some of the more depressing things. Felt similarly about the magicians and shanarra. Although both of those got a bit cheesier.

I honestly can't quite remember how it ended, but I like it that way. Makes it more fun to rewatch.

As a side note, I just rewatched Battlestar Galactica and was amazed at how little I remembered. Almost every cylon reveal was a surprise, and it was great being able to go through the whole series with fresh eyes. Having a crappy memory has its perks sometimes.

I watched this when it first came out. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it. I felt like the story/writer was trying just a bit too hard to be philosophical, to the point of weakening the overall story. I get it. Is she crazy and making it all up or does she actually have some power. It’s not a particularly poignant message. “Belief is what truly matters” or some other such platitude.

The show itself was entertaining enough...except that ending. I know it moved a lot of people. I wasn’t one of them. The only place it moved me was off the couch. I thought it was completely ridiculous, even for a somewhat ridiculous show. It took me out of the show entirely. I was lost. I don’t know how it could possibly draw me back in.

I was literally screaming at the screen as the final scenes played out. I felt betrayed. Like I was lead on a journey and then ditched right at the end. And it’s not a matter of not getting it. The ending just seemed so utterly ridiculous that it was almost offensive, given how much time I had already put into the show. It was Shayamalan-esque.

It would take a lot for me to return to this show for a season 2. As it stands, I won’t be watching.

I loved it when it first came out, it got a lot of hate back then and I never understood it. I am really happy a second season has been announced.

Yep big thumbs up. Although I though it wrapped up well - a second series seems unnecessary.
