It took me a while to read this whole thread. There are certainly some interesting viewpoints held by certain users here. I consider myself more conservative than liberal, more right than left, in most things. I live in California, so it's not hard to be considered a conservative in this state. If you disagree at all with the majority you're labeled a conservative. It's a shame. I'm used to it though. It's hard to have conversations with people from the Bay Area and/or Los Angeles and not get ridiculed for holding beliefs that go against the norm. It's unfortunate that the same seems to be close to the norm here. Unfortunate, but not unexpected.

T_D and most every other Alt-Right outlet are not the norm. They're just the loudest voice. I speak with a lot of conservative people and groups and I have yet to run into someone I would actually consider alt-right. Most people are reasonable. Especially if they interact with actual humans and not with words on a screen. Interpersonal interaction promotes empathy in almost all people. Talking to/at a screen does not. I think we've all been conditioned to assume the worst about the other side. I try to be reasonable and have at least a logical explanation for my beliefs. I know people won't always agree with me, but I don't want them to be able to find fault in my reasoning.

Do Jedi study warfare and tactics? I know they study dueling, but do they also look at more large-scale battles? I was thinking about the Clone Wars revival today and I was kinda wondering why the Republic entrusted their military power to what were essentially warrior monks. Was it just a case of “there’s literally no one else”?

I’m a Cinemark movie club member and I love it. It’s one “free” movie per month (the cost of the monthly membership fee is the price you pay for movies). I’m addition to that, you get 20% off concessions and you can buy up to two tickets a day for the discounted price ($8.99). It’s been a great program for my wife and me. We usually see a movie at least once a week.

I never read the books, but I did check out some synopses. I understand they changed a lot. Especially certain characters’ relationships.

Is she better in other stuff? I’ve not seen her in anything else. She chewed so much scenery in this show that it made me question her ability as an actor.

It absolutely did. For me, the jury is still out on whether it was the writing, the acting, or both. She was the one major downside to an otherwise stellar show. Even Ortega’s character gets an explanation for her actions that make them believable and even sympathetic. Reileen’s motivations are immature and cartoonish, and her rationale is far too childish. Especially for someone who is supposedly hundreds of years old.

A buddy and I were having a discussion the other day about the benefits of a platform like Twitter. He’s a guy who uses no social media. The only true benefit I could find is that Twitter allows for almost instant access to news and information. Other than that, it’s a cesspool.

Do the benefits of social media outweigh the very obvious negatives? I’m starting to wonder these days. I think social media has worked to polarize us far more than we would have been had it not existed.

I don’t know if many, or any, minds have been changed because of a Facebook argument/post. I’m sure some have, but if you’re goal is to change one mind, go for it. Be prepared to want to pull your hair out to achieve that goal.

I watched this when it first came out. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it. I felt like the story/writer was trying just a bit too hard to be philosophical, to the point of weakening the overall story. I get it. Is she crazy and making it all up or does she actually have some power. It’s not a particularly poignant message. “Belief is what truly matters” or some other such platitude.

The show itself was entertaining enough...except that ending. I know it moved a lot of people. I wasn’t one of them. The only place it moved me was off the couch. I thought it was completely ridiculous, even for a somewhat ridiculous show. It took me out of the show entirely. I was lost. I don’t know how it could possibly draw me back in.

I was literally screaming at the screen as the final scenes played out. I felt betrayed. Like I was lead on a journey and then ditched right at the end. And it’s not a matter of not getting it. The ending just seemed so utterly ridiculous that it was almost offensive, given how much time I had already put into the show. It was Shayamalan-esque.

It would take a lot for me to return to this show for a season 2. As it stands, I won’t be watching.

I enjoyed the show until the last couple episodes. Reileen’s character was just ridiculous, even for the already caricatured meths. She was completely unbelievable in both her motivation and her actions. It really took me out of the show. I know I’m not alone in this.

I’m excited to see where the show goes from here. I’m wondering if they’re just going to get an entirely new cast to keep with the theme of the show. It’ll be interesting to watch. I do hope Reileen’s character has run her course. I don’t want to see her as some recurring villain.

Honestly, she was one of the worst things about the first season for me. At least her character was. I don’t know if it was the writing or her acting (I haven’t really seen her in anything else), but her character was practically insufferable. The last 3 or so episodes took a massive dip in quality because of it.
