When does Person of Interest start to get good?
I have watched the first season, and started the second season. I have been told a few times, it gets better once they get more into the AI aspect behind "the machine". So far the episodes are pretty formulaic, so I am wondering if there is a specific episode or season where these little plot bits about this machine everyone is trying to find come to fruition and the series pivots to more of a sci-fi sub-plot.
Also, how come nobody calls him out for talking to himself all the time?
I do like the dog, good addition to the second season.
EDIT: I am now on season 2 episode 10, and yeah its starting to get a lot better. It seems to be a slow transition but they are getting my attention with all this hacker history talk.
I watched until the end of season 4 iirc, and at that point nothing further had aired.
With the exception of what I haven't seen yet (and may never see, depending on life), I wouldn't necessarily agree that it gets better as you go along. Maybe the last season is phenomenal? I don't know.
I actually really enjoyed the early seasons and the air of mystery surrounding the machine as the plot was set up. I think the biggest draw of the series for me was simply the premise. And that's not a bad thing in my opinion. I think enjoying a story for nothing more than the premise is valid.
If you don't enjoy the show from the start, it might not be your thing. That would be my n cents anyway. I wouldn't hold my breath for it to change into a completely different show. But I don't know what you're looking for in the show exactly, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The flash backs are keeping me engaged and I hope it leads to something better.

End of Season 1 / Beginning of Season 2.
I've written about this here before:

If you're still not into it throughout season 2, then maybe it's just not your thing.
Awesome thanks. I am gonna stick with it.
Basically: look at the range of opinions in this thread.
Nobody can tell you whether you're going to like it better in the future. It won't matter if I tell you I liked it, because you alone get to make your taste.
The strength of Person of Interest is in the overall plot, with moments strung about that make it really interesting. If you can subside the discontent with the bland in-the-minute storytelling and if you still like the idea, something tells me you're gonna enjoy what comes next. And if not? Don't waste your time. There's plenty of shows that are going to tickle your fancy.
