I don't know if anybody here remembers Spielberg's War of the Worlds (2005) with Tom Cruise. The movie was heavy with 9/11 symbolism, and came out around the time Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah's couch, so in my memory it had a rather cold reception. Just checked Rotten Tomatoes though and it seems it actually did pretty well so maybe my recollection's failing me. Regardless I did like that movie quite a bit at the time. Haven't seen it since then, now I'm wondering if it still holds up after 14 years.
The start of that sentence made me think you were going to reference something like The Tripods, not a 2005 blockbuster. :-) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086818/

That would be hilarious. Wells truly was ahead of his time!
