Better Call Saul is so great. Whenever Kim does ANYTHING, I assume she's going to die... and if she doesn't die, then Jimmy will finally hit that last straw. Her story is probably the toughest for me, since we already sort of know the outcome.

McMillions is draaaaaaaging on. It's all interesting, but this story doesn't need eight hours or whatever.

This is a great time for TV. STRIKEBACK is on and as consistent as ever, then in two weeks we get Westworld, The Plot Against America, and Top Chef.

For you political folks, Axios is back on Sunday, too.

My spouse and I have been watching Grace and Frankie on Netflix. It's pretty funny and worth a watch. Lilly Tomlin is hilarious! I remember her being in a lot of stuff when I was a kid (9 to 5, All of Me, etc.), then didn't see her in too many things for several decades. (Possibly because I just wasn't paying attention.) A few years ago I saw her in Grandma which was pretty excellent. So it's great to see her in this. I haven't really followed Jane Fonda's career, but she plays a character that is very plausibly like what I imagine she would be like in real life.

Watched "I Am Not Okay With This" on Netflix, think Millennial Carrie, from the people who made "The End of the F***ing World." Pretty fun, interesting ending.

Also watched the finale of Doctor Who Series 12, and to be honest, I'm not sure what to think. It swung pretty big, and if it can follow through, it could be interesting, but I'm used to Doctor Who introducing The MacGuffin that could change everything, then walking it back leaving all sorts of unanswered questions in it's wake. Hope it's not one of those.

I'm really enjoying Formula 1: Drive to Survive, a documentary series on Netflix (just finished the first season, which covers the 2018 championship. Season two follows 2019). Brazilians of my generation used to watch every Ayrton Senna race, but I stopped following the sport after his tragic death. It was a traumatizing event for the entire nation. And Formula 1 without a Brazilian driver with a shot at the podium is just not the same.

This series has a great balance between coverage of financials, backstabbing and intrigue and the races themselves. Formula 1 must be one of the harshest, most competitive sports in the world, and to me, it is like a microcosmos of savage capitalism. Talent does make a difference, but money will definitely buy victories and there are very little rules to counter that. Besides, while winning seems achievable to everyone, in reality, the rich tend to dominate: Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull.

And it's nice that they focus on the underdogs because their stories are rarely given enough space on transmissions. I bet this was not a choice, but a necessity, since the top and richer teams have less to gain with a film crew messing around their workflows. This changes on Season 2, though.

It's refreshing how Formula 1 people barely hide their true intentions under the guise of "our company wants to change the world", or "we're here to make people connected on a global community". They make very clear that:

    1. They must be the best because they have huge egos — and they're not ashamed of that
    2. One of the main purposes of winning is getting brand recognition and/or financial results

I'm basically a Marxist, but I respect their honesty (even though there are clearly many staged moments). There's not much PR talk in this series, and even when they try to conceal their intentions they're more transparent than they think. In sum: most Formula 1 people are in a position to not give a shit, and that's entertaining.

I wish they did a show on Formula 1 history. The careers of Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet, Senna (which has a great movie), Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher, and many others, are also super interesting.
