Hopefully she gets out of the internet shit show that Bree Larson stepped into, but casting has always been consistently good in MCU properties, so I trust she can do the job.

I’ve only dipped my toes into comics but isn’t the current Captain Marvel technically Ms. Marvel? Did Thanos already kill Mar-Vell in the MCU timeline off screen?

Mar-Vell was an undercover Kree scientist who worked with Carol Danvers on Earth before Carol was abducted. Carol worked with her with the Tesseract/Space Stone/Magic Box, got her powers when she poked it too hard, and then was abducted by Kree forces that killed Mar-Vell, had Carol's mind wiped, but she eventually made it back to Earth and took up the name Captain Marvel because she was Air Force and wanted to honor Mar-Vell.

Edit: Hopefully that's no longer ambiguous.

Ah. Sadly I remember nothing about that movie so I forgot how close or not it followed comics.
