TV Tuesdays Free Talk
Have you watched any TV shows recently you want to discuss? Any shows you want to recommend or are hyped about? Feel free to discuss anything here.
Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
Since about October of 2020 I’ve been binging movies. And I’ve only recently decided to take a break from movies and watch TV shows.
I already talked about how much I liked Ghosts from the BBC. Which is on HBOMax for anyone in America.
I saw The Boys, I haven’t finished season 2 and I don’t know if I will pick it back up. I really enjoyed the first season, but I’ve just really been annoyed by the main character lately.
I watched The Kominsky Method’s third season. And I had almost completely forgotten about it since I binged the first two seasons back in late 2019. I love it, it’s such a good show. It’s Chuck Lorre’s masterpiece, and it’s so personal and heartfelt.
I also watched Succession, finally. Which was hilarious, I absolutely love the writing and I can’t wait for season 3. The chemistry between Tom and Greg is such a pleasure to watch. “You can’t make a Tomelette without breaking some Greggs.”
I also tried watching series 12 of Doctor Who but after about 20 minutes of the first episode I turned it off since I remembered why I stopped watching it. It’s a shame really, that the quality of the writing sunk really low during this iteration of the Doctor. I think Jodie Whittaker could have been great. As of right now, in my opinion, the show ended with Twice Upon a Christmas.
Two shows we like started up again this week: Lupin and Home Before Dark.
Lupin is a French show on Netflix about a "gentleman thief" based off of the old French Arsène Lupin novels. The main character read the books as a kid and became fascinated with him. His father was framed for a crime he didn't commit and now he's out to avenge his father's name. It's sometimes absurd and not at all believable, but it's quite fun. The season was split in 2 with the first 5 episodes first streaming about 6-9 months ago. The remaining 5 just dropped in the last week or two.
Home Before Dark is a fictionalization of the story of Hilde Lysiak. The second season just started and they're dropping 1 episode per week. The first episode was pretty good. She investigates why a mysterious company is trying to buy a family farm from someone who doesn't want to sell.
I normally wait until series are finished before I start watching them, but I couldn't resist with Loki and wound up watching the first episode last night. It was great, lived up to the hype, and I am also looking forward to watching the rest to see where it goes. IMO the only thing that sucks is that they chose to go with the weekly release, like standard TV. I really hate when streaming services do that. I want to binge it all right now, dammit! :P
