Have you watched any TV shows recently you want to discuss? Any shows you want to recommend or are hyped about? Feel free to discuss anything here.
Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
We finished up the final season of Atypical. In it, Sam decides to make a big change in his life, and of course, that sets off a lot of issues with his ASD. It ends up being pretty upbeat and I really enjoyed how it came together. Likewise, his sister Casey makes some big decisions, too, and I'm really glad they showed what she went through. (And I'm glad they modeled good parental behavior when she came out.)
Oh, and we also watched the Go-Gos documentary on Showtime. (I don't know why, but we've watched a bunch of music documentaries lately.) I thought they were a lot more honest about things than what we saw in the BeeGees documentary. They didn't just hint briefly that they had drug problems and gloss over it like the BeeGees did. They came right out and said things like, "Yeah, so I was addicted to heroine at the time and none of the rest of the band knew it," or "...so we bought a whole bunch of drugs and alcohol and took them to a hotel in Palm Springs and got totally baked for the whole weekend!" Very refreshing. They did some shitty things to one another, but they seem to have learned from their mistakes. The industry also treated them really shitty, unsurprisingly.
My girlfriend introduced me to Please Like Me. The colors are muted and the photography is like it is always dawn. The show looks like an advertisement. It is by far the most hipster thing I have ever watched, and I'm counting Wes Anderson movies. I am 100% not the target audience for this, but this girl watched The Godfather for me so I made an effort. It's a pretty good show and the main guy is really funny. I even watched a few episodes without her (she's rewatching). I do skip the gay sex and some of the more melodramatic scenes, though. It's nice watching without the pressure, since she REALLY loves it on a very deep level and gets super excited, while I just find it kinda cool myself -- despite all the hipsterism.
You just got me to add this to my watching queue! Thanks for sharing. I hadn't heard of it before.
Of course, when I'm really excited about a show no one cares, but when I spend most of the comment talking trash about something I just find kinda cool everyone wants to watch it! Hahaha :P
I just finished the second season of Trying, and I absolutely loved it. It’s a very wholesome show. I don’t have children (by choice), and I couldn’t help but root for the couple in the show who are trying to adopt.
I'm a little late to the game, but Dr. Death is proving to be an excellent series. IIRC it was first a podcast on Wondery... so murder-porn... but the series definitely doesn't carry this tone at all.
Robin Roberts is a pretty good guest host for Jeopardy. LeVar Burton on the 26th!
ok, I'm posting again --- the new He-Man series on Netflix is pretty great and worth a watch. It's got a similar feel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, but less cutesy.
