Like, the web site designer will not have to create a website that's pro gay marriage, because that would involve the designer having to write pro-gay messages. But if a gay person wanted a website on like finance (something which the designer did not disagree with), then the designer could not refuse on the grounds of the client being gay. Essentially it's about compelled speech. In practice, I think homophobic web designers would reject gay clients regardless (and hide their homophobic reasoning), and I think this is a bad ruling, but I do want to point out the detail of the law.
In this case, I don't see how a hair stylist could make the same claim. Hair is hair right, not speech? I could see a hair stylist saying there's certain styles they can't/won't do. But a gay person's hair is the same as a straight person's hair. This is different from a web designer who would have to create artwork that is specifically pro-gay. Perhaps the hair stylist could refuse to, for example, shave the phrase "Pro Gay Marriage" into someone's hair, but unless you're doing that it seems ungrounded.

Most forecasters consider it a climate catastrophe if 10% of the population were to die due to climate, like from what I've seen that's often beyond the +3C prediction (Paris was +1.5C. Many predictions for global deaths, even above paris, are <5%).
- The volcanic winter of 536 AD, where 1/3rd to 1/2 of Rome's population died and the temperature plunged by 2.5C.
- The black death killed 30-50% of Europeans
- WW2 was estimated at around 3% of global deaths
- The holocaust having industrialized extermination
I find it helpful to ask myself if I think humanity should have given up at any of these earlier points. And I emphatically think they shouldn't have given up in 536, or the Black Death, etc. Climate change is my #1 most important issue, I'm no climate denier, and I think it will tragically lead to deaths that could have been avoided if we got off fossil fuels earlier. But I don't think humanity should have given up in 536 and decided not to have kids, and I think in a few hundred years we'll look back and think the same.
I also think that the only way out is through. As NinjaSky mentioned, it's about choosing hope. Climate doomerism and climate denialism can sometimes from the outside look the same because both propose we do nothing.

But then MimicSquad responded with what they did do, and you brought up separate points. That seems like moving the goal posts. You can reasonably say they didn't do enough, but to say they did nothing, when they did stuff, is wrong and worthy of being corrected.
This isn't reddit, you don't get magical points for backing the blue team. They did something shitty and it's ok to be pissed at them.
It's uncharitable to apply this motive to MimicSquad and comes across as an ad-hominem. It's not quite, but close, to calling MimicSquad a karma-chasing hivemind redditor.
To lay my biases on the table, I think Biden and Sander's lack of support is a disgrace and should be called out. I strongly side with the rail workers and think important infrastructure jobs should be well funded.

None of them really clicked, but always on the lookout for others and have eyed many of the Steam options. Foundry looks self-hostable which is great too.
Are there any pitfalls to avoid or tips you'd recommend?

The F-22 can fly faster than F-35, at increased...Remember that the most powerful fighter jet in the world, according to pretty much everybody, is still the F-22 Raptor. The F-35 has some advantages in avionics and scale, and the J-20 is supposed to rival the F-35, but none of those is actually capable of going up against an F-22 and coming out on top. And I guess I could mention the SU-57 but for some reason I don't think that's considered a serious rival anymore.
The F-22 is America's best jet, their air dominance fighter. I think the F-35 advantage is largely on technology, rather than avionics per se. The F-22 can fly faster than F-35, at increased range, and is capable of supercruising (cruising at super sonic speed without the fuel-expensive and stealth-ruining afterburner). They both fire the same weapons, but generally the F-22 is an F-35 killer. Which makes sense strategically that America exports the F-35, but not the F-22.
How any of those compare to the J-20 is hotly debated, shrouded in secrecy, and honestly difficult to find credible comparisons. To put my biases on the table, I think the F-22 is still likely the best. I'll say that on paper the J-20 is basically better than the F-22, but in reality data is very limited, though China is deploying them in the south china sea. They do flybys and other aerial encounters to US aircraft as of the last few years, so they are operational. But of course they haven't seen combat, so the question of quality is somewhat of an open question.
The main strategic difference between the J-20 and the F-22 in my mind is quantity. Only 195 F-22s were built and the USA is unable to make more without cannabilizing down F-35 production. China have over 200 J-20 and are producing over 40 a year, whereas America's stock of F-22 dwindle as they slowly have to use some as salvage for repair and trainer aircraft. This is why the USA is moving so quickly towards NGAD, their F-22 replacement(s), as otherwise they will be significantly outnumbered in this area.

Seems a bit excessive when the old ones work perfectly fine, but I'm sure they have quarterly targets to hit. Ours basically looks like the TERRA and ART here, but, well, a bit older. Honestly I imagine the cheapest one would be fine, maybe even a used one. There's basically no internal parts, so as long as the plastic isn't cracking it should be fine. Or if you buy new, I would suggest getting the cheapest one (after reading reviews), as honestly I can't imagine any features here making a big difference. You plug a bottle in and it carbonates it, everything else is fluff.

I was originally interested in doing this, way before Soda Stream had it's surge in popularity and became more mainstream, but now that I've got the carbonated water I find I don't have the time/energy/willpower to focus on this.
Very cool though, and you're making me re-consider making our own, especially tea ones. Any suggestions on how to get started?

No unexpected costs.
We had one of the earlier model machines break as the plastic cracked over time of us being too hard with it over years of daily use. In general the build quality is fine. Also, the bottles aren't dishwasher safe, we lost a bottle that way too, but that's our fault.
I'll say I find all the syrups suck. We've tried them occasionally off and on. We just drink plain water. It's healthier too, so not complaining. Makes water feel like a treat, lol.

Comment on Canadian interest rate increases = stave off the housing bubble (or create a spectacular burst?) in ~finance

To clarify, you're describing a 5 year fixed-term mortgage. 5 year is as, I understand it, as long as they typically go in Canada. Ever since 2008, they were effectively done away with in Canada. This makes home ownership more risky for homeowners, but less risky for banks, and is part of the reason why Canada's banking system is considered more resilient than the US.
A variable rate mortgage updates immediately to the new rate. My neighbours have this. When BoC raises rates, their mortgage interest goes up immediately. Even worse, the bank doesn't notify you of this, and if you just keep paying the same amount, there will be more interest accrued and you may be even going backwards or just treading water.

Ironically it's made me consider going to Twitter (which has committed the same sin), since a big portion of the posts were just links to Twitter posts. Would love to foster a similar community here or anywhere really, but as I'm just some amateur armchair general, I don't think I'm the best person for that role.

I remember having to pre-order back in the day and if you showed up two days late they'd sell your copy to someone else and you'd have to wait.
What do you feel like you're missing out on by pre-ordering now? I usually avoid even looking at "pre-order bonuses" and don't ever feel like the game sucks without them. Occasionally, I will pre-order if the bonus is really good, particularly like if I'm playing an MMO with friends and pre-ordering gives you early access.
There are limits though. It's not legal to say "I won't do business with black people." You're right that's speech, but it certainly isn't protected by the first amendment if that's how your business operates. This example of using the speech defence to refuse to deal with black people or women came up in the Supreme Court Case of 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis.
The question in this case is what are those limits? This case has defined new lines.
