I finished 11.22.63. Brilliant. Such a good show, with a great ending. Should have been nominated for limited series back in 2016.
I started watching Godless since it’s from Scott Frank who directed The Queens Gambit. It hasn’t really grabbed my interest the way Gambit grabbed it. So I stopped watching it around the third episode.
I also started watching Y: The Last Man, and I stopped by the fourth episode. I don’t care about any of the characters. And I thought the editing verged on being distractingly bad.
I kind of want to find another show to watch. A limited series preferably. But I just haven’t been able to find one that I want to binge.
That was a great Stephen King. Much like Queens Gambit, I wouldn't call it exceptional, but rather a highly competent and entertaining version of some well known tropes. In this case, alternate history tropes. Including the ending.
I'm loving Goliath this season. Goliath has always been a modern noir --- almost as if Philip Marlowe were a lawyer. This season has a star-studded cast and seeing these actors go toe-to-toe is a real treat. Jena Malone is always great but stands out.
mild spoiler
Her role is somewhat similar to her role in Too Old to Die Young. She makes for an excellent unassuming villain.
Doom Patrol is also back and maintaining the same quality, which is kind of surprising, to be honest.
We're heading in to the last episode of Scenes from a Marriage, which is a heavy series. It's early in the year, but I hope it isn't forgotten when next year's Emmys roll around. Isaac and Chastain are remarkable together. Oscar Isaac seems to be in everything these days; This, The Card Counter, Dune, the upcoming Moon Knight. He's also in preproduction for Francis and the Godfather, a series from Barry Levinson about the production of The Godfather, which should be good.
super late edit: Scenes from a Marriage just ended and there is nothing to be said about it beyond it being masterfully executed.
Seinfeld is on Netflix now, making it way more convenient for me to watch.
On the one hand, it still blows my mind how current it is, and how some things it introduced are yet to be made as well. The episode structure that intertwines three or four subplots which are combined for a highly comedic ending is something even Larry David was unable to reproduce. Not to mention the brilliant dialogue, the superb acting, how each plot interferes with another... I love it so much 😍
The first seasons are not as stellar, though, and lose a lot without the novelty factor. The formula was being perfected still.
Seinfeld is also a kind of comedy that is not as common anymore, you really have to pay attention to the whole story, its nuance and details. Otherwise you'll simply miss a lot of the jokes. Because of that, it's a pain watching with my uninitiated girlfriend. She's enjoying it, but she miss so much! This is not an Instagram post, my love ♥️ :P
