The sanity check would be to never take a philosophy to the extreme or some edge case.
I think such a sanity check makes sense because if you just think about the history of ethical philosophy... How many times have we come up with an ethical philosophy where we think to ourselves " okay now this is the one. " - only to just come up with another philosophy 20 or so years later . The absolute arrogance to look at the span of history across thousands of years where we have been iterating continuously, and then to devote your entire life to something under the assumption that you have actually got things solved this time... It's just crazy... Especially when you're operating at the fringe of the capabilities of the philosophy to prescribe actions.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with using ethical philosophies as tools(if anything, we should be doing it way more than we presently are as a general population), but we need to be realistic about the fact that we haven't solved ethics . You should strive to be good, and you should use ethical philosophies to inform your decisions, but I don't think you should bet the farm on any particular one.

Just throw in the towel and always select whole word on a single click. Always delete a whole word. This would give you faster access to the copy and paste too.
Another idea: copy vim modes! Add a button that converts the letters on the keyboard into something that quickly moves the cursor or cuts or pastes or provides selection. Maybe you get it automatically if you have a selection in the middle of your text.
Another idea: go all in on voice to text. I personally find it pretty good, and much faster than trying to deal with typing. Right now, they only dedicate a single bar to the UI when you are in voice to text mode. Instead, they could replace the entire keyboard while you're talking with more meaningful quick actions that you could use while still staying in voice to text mode. Even if it was just alternative word suggestions, it would be pretty useful I think given how often I need to replace single words because it misheard me. And maybe something for faster emoji access.

Phrasing it that way certainly makes it seem like betting on FastCo would be the way to go. However, there may be a correlation between philosophy around speed of development and talent. It certainly seems like many of the people who want to go slow do so because of good reasons rather than laziness or anything that most fast moving tech companies would supplant.
If there are enough people in the slow camp(and they are higher quality), then the slow camp will still win out on progress.
